Chaper 1
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
I rolled over and slammed my hand on my alarm. I really hated work, but it was permenant income since my dad was CEO and owner of Thompson Enterprises. Greg Thompson was everyone's favorite business man, and he just happened to be my daddy.
Pulling the covers back, I got up and made my way into the bathroom to start a shower. Climbing in I washed my hair and scrubbed my body clean with my strawberry scented bath set. I'm a bath and body works fanatic. I have every new fragarance out, and if I don't get to it quick enough my dad surprises me with it soon enough.
People thinks my father spoils me a bit too much. Especially at the age of 18 when I'm able to get it myself. Hes always been like that. Even before my mom died of cancer when I was 14. We all thought dad would never recover, but he promised to focus more on me and the business and things went up from there.
Stepping out of the shower, I wrapped a towel around myself and made my way in my room. Deciding on a white sun dress with my pink flats, I got dressed and proceeded to curl my hair and dot on a bit of powder and mascara. Slapping on some lip balm, I sprayed my perfume on and grabbed my things before proceeding out of my room and downstairs into my kitchen.
I moved out of my father's a few months ago when I turned eighteen. He wasn't very happy about it, but he shushed when he realized he would see me at work everyday.
I smiled at my best friend, Casey when I walked off the elevator towards my office.
"Your dad hired a new guy," She whispered yelled to me.
That made me stop and then turn to fully face her. My father never hired anyone without at least cluing me in on it. That just wasn't like him at all.
"Are you abdolutely positive?" I asked her.
Casey nodded her head quickly. "Yes! He walked in with your father about ten minutes ago. Their in his office."
I was now frowning as I turned away from her and made my way towards my father's office. My father was supposed to go through me also besides himself because this business will be mine when he decides to hand it down. I was practically partner!
My father wouldn't do that to me. He loves me, and I know he wouldn't upset me like that.
Making it to my father's office, I twisted the door and walked in without knocking.
That's when I saw a man pop his head up at me along with a shocked Greg Thompson. I frowned at my daddy and he sighed and looked away from me. He knew I was told and he also knew I wasn't a happy camper.
"Daddy whose this?" I asked him.
Greg slowly smiled. "princess this is my new partner, Jackson O'Connor."
I looked at my father and then I looked at Jackson who had a smirk on his face. I knew by looking at him he was an arrogant asshole. I also knew just by looking at him that he thought he was going to run this business like it was his own.
He was wrong!
"Partner?" I laughed at my father.
Greg nodded his head. "Jackson here will be here helping me keep this place in line until I feel it's necessary for you to take over."
I sighed. "Fine. I'm going to my office."
Shutting my father's door, I proceeded into my office next door and shut the door before making myself comfy in my seat. I could see all the paperwork on my desk that needed to be signed and stamped before being sent to my father's desk.
Thompson Enterprises was a publishing office. I ran many transcripts a day and I also threw many of them away a day. The ones I approved were stamped and sent to my father for further assistance. Casey was the secretary of the building. She took my calls mainly when I was busy, but she basically put away files and make sure they were in the system for safe keeping.
Sliding my bag underneath my desk, I picked up the first transcript and scrimmed through it. I could tell mainly this book was gonna be a sobby romance novel. The woman fell in love and then they lived happily ever after. I frowned and tossed it to the reject pile.
No I don't have anything against romance, but we have so many coming in daily sometimes it's hard having to pick one or several out of thousands when most of the time, they were always the same thing. The same topic. It was just awful.
Hearing someone knock on my door, I lifted my head when my door opened and frowned when I saw him. "Yes Mr. O'Connor?"
He grinned at me. "please call me Jackson."
"Well Jackson," I said frowning once more. "what do you need?"
"Your father needs Susan Marcums transcript. Is it finished yet?"
I smirked. "tell him I read the first two pages and it was a sob fairytale between a man and a woman and they live happily ever after."
Jackson laughed. "One of those huh?"
I grabbed the rejected transcript and handed it to him. "Tell him to enjoy, but my answer is still no."
"Don't believe in love, Miss. Thompson?" Jackson smiled at me.
I smirked. "I believe in love when a man stops thinking he owns you and makes decisions for a woman who is capable of being independent on her own."
He smirked. "Well Mia, you just haven't found the right man yet."
