chapter 1
Fifth-period algebra isn't a place where most people would expect to see a ghost just chilling about, but unfortunately, you did.
After jotting down a couple of notes about a new assignment for her class, she looked up to lowly gasp at a little girl standing the dark corner of the classroom. It was clear she didn't belong here. The girl was wearing a tethered, yellow dress with a white, wilted flower in her hand. She was staring dead at you. It sends shivers down your spine, a cold breeze passing by you.
You glance around quickly, making sure nobody can her but you. If nobody noticed her, it was obvious she was a ghost and in searching for help. You shift uncomfortably in your seat, not wanting to do anything about—but as the new luiseach in your family, you ask your teacher for a hall pass and quickly exit the classroom with a few stares on you.
You look around the deserted hallways of your school, rain lightly tapping on the big windows. It was just you..and the little girl ghost that had appeared.
It took only a moment for the little girl to slowly approach you. She gently smiled at you as you stretched out your arm to touch her. Suddenly, you know how she died. The girl, went by the name of Emerie, was in a field of flowers and not knowing what type of flowers they were she picked one up and instantly felt a stinging pain on her finger. It was a type of poison that spreader from your finger until it found your heart and without any medical treatment, she died alone in the field.
"I'm sorry you died that way," You breathed out, "It's time for you to move on, Emerie." Without a response from her, she kept her eyes locked on you. With a small wince of pain from you, Emerie disappeared into a ball of light.
"Y/N?" A voice echoed in the hall, causing you to jump. You turn around slowly and see your best friend, Taehyung, eyeing you weirdly.
"What are you doing out here?" He muttered, "holding your hand out, like that?" Taehyung walked up to you, his hands in the pocket of his black ripped jeans. He was always a cold, quiet boy to others but around you, he was almost a ray of sunshine.
"Uh—nothing." You nervously chuckled, "I was just on my way to the restroom." You bite your lip and turn away from him with a panicked look.
"Well, aren't you gonna go?" He laughed. You nod, patting his shoulder as you rush passed him back into your classroom, not evening heading towards the restrooms anymore.
"You alright, there Y/N?" Mr. Yeong asked as he looked at my reddened face, "You look flustered."
You let out a high pitch 'yes' and head back to your seat avoiding the looks and snickers from your classmates.
Being a luiseach has its perks. You can see the dead, sometimes communicate with them, and then you get to be the one who gets to release them to the good land up above. But it always has a downside, like you get to know how they died, which can be very unpleasant, and experience a sharp, quick pain before they go to elsewhere.
After the last period of the day, you jog out into the school parking lot and notice Taehyung's lanky body waiting for by his car. You instantly smile, upon seeing him again, and embrace with a hug once you approach him.
"How did they rest if your day go?" he asks, unaware of the embarrassment you had to deal with. It's was the first day of winter break and everyone around was talking about their plans.
How you planned to spend your break, was by learning how to deal with ghosts, demons, and new meanings.
"Fine, I guess." You sighed at Taehyung's question, "can't complain, when I'm a girl woo see's ghost." you muttered.
Taehyung dryly laugh at that, "right, cause my best friend can see ghost, Y/N." He slightly nudged her arm as the got into his car.
You laugh along with him, only you felt a little sad that he could possibly never believe that his best friend could see ghost. Taehyung glances over at as he stopped at a red light.
"You look upset.." he trailed off, licking his lips, "something happen?"
"No, I'm just sad I won't get to see you a lot during our break." You pout, a meaningful frown on your face.
"You seriously have to go to that resort, don't you?" Taehyung sighed sadly, "why can't I just come with you?"
"It's a family thing." You lie through your teeth. A small wave of guilt washed over you, if Taehyung knew about you being a luiseach, he could come—but he'd probably freak out and not want to speak to you again.
"Thought I was your family too." He pouted. You couldn't help but ruffle his blonde hair, "Tae, the lights green."
He pressed on the gas and the rest of the car ride to your house was with bumping jams to old music. You tried to enjoy this moment with Taehyung, as it would probably be awhile until you and him would see each other.
The brakes to his eerily stopped as the pulled into your driveway, your eyes caught attention to the front door—it was cracked open.
"That's odd, no one should be here." You whisper to yourself as you take off your seatbelt and hop out of the car.
"Y/N, don't go in there.." Taehyung pulled you into his arms protectively, "It probably isn't safe." You looked up at him with a smile but pushed away from him, "Taehyung I've been in more dangerous situations than you could ever imagine." You huffed, turning away from and barging into your home.
The lights were off and it was darker than usual. You could sense a presence in the house—whether it was good or bad—you couldn't tell. You didn't have that sort of power yet.
"H-Hello?" Your quiet voice echoes in the house, footsteps creaked in the wood flooring, "Whose there?"
You let out a shriek when warm hands wrap around your waist. Your eyes glare at the man who had grabbed you, "What the hell, Tae?" You whisper yell.
He cheekily smiles, "Did you find anything?"
"No, you scared me." You roll your eyes.
Before you could say anything, a cold crisp breeze whirls around you and your best friend, startling you guys. You pause and realize the breeze is familiar, it was your mentor, and he was unexpected.
"Y/N~" the voice sang. You instantly sighed, reaching for the light switch on the wall by you. The cold breeze moved away from you guys and to the center of the room, knocking a few things over. The swirl continued on, slowly turning a male figure, a flashy smile sent your way.
"What's going on?" Taehyung gasped, clinching your shoulders.
"Just relax." You say, a nervous smile visible on your face, "Hi, dad." You say, once your father is clearly visible.
"My princess, how are you?" Your dad, chuckled. Giving you a tight hug, "I'm well."
"D-Dad?" Taehyung muttered. He never knew you had a dad, no one outside your family did. You and your dad turn to the confused boy.
"Tae, this my dad. Dad, this my best friend, Taehyung." You said with a soft smile.
"You never told me." Taehyung frowned, "and how did he appear like that."
Your dad looked towards you with a frown, "He doesn't know?" He sighs, once you shake your head.
"What should I do then? Erase his memories of this—or tell him the truth?"
"Erase my what?" Taehyung screeched, he slowly headed for the doors, but you stopped him. "
"Taehyung, sit down." You spoke, with even noticing your eyes turned a dark gold for a quick second and then back to the normal crystal blue they were. Taehyung sat down, biting his lip, "Y/N, what is this?"
You looked towards your dad who gave a nod and then back to Taehyung with a gulp, "Tae.."
"I can see ghost."
