Epigraph

The Lady

By Judy Higgins

That evening I had been invited to a gathering which I was much of a mind to shun due to a particularly long run of London’s abysmal mizzle. But the promise I’d made to attend moved me at last to set aside my book and don my despised rain gear. I traversed London’s dour streets to be among the last to arrive at the premises. Upon entering the parlor, I stopped short. Across the room, in the flickering shadows of the hearth fire, sat the most enchanting lady I’d ever seen.
