Chapter 1

I groan as she slams her hand on her alarm clock. “Dude, I was awake five minutes ago!” I turn my clock to face me and it only takes a second before I jump up and realize how I am going to be late, again. I work at Lenna and Kate’s Cafe downtown and as it may not take long to get there, I am almost always late. I am surprised I haven’t been fired yet.

After I shoved my uniform on as fast as possible I realized there was a stain on my pants, “Shoot! I forgot to wash them again!” I quickly take them off and throw them across the room. There were already so many clothes over there, it made no difference. I put on some tight black jeans hoping that Lenna wouldn’t mind my pants weren’t white and ran into the bathroom. It’s a good thing I take showers at night. After I effortlessly brushed my teeth and hair, I grabbed my purse and phone and ran out the door. I was about halfway down the hallway when I realized I didn’t touch the door. It’s a tradition for me and everyone in my family to touch my door when we enter or leave for good luck, although I don’t really think it works for me, I do it to make my family happy, even if they aren’t here, so I turn around and run down the hallway to touch the door. It would help if the stairs weren’t so far away.

After I was downstairs I stopped running and started walking to my car. It’s a black Honda Civic if you were wondering. It wasn’t too long after that I made it to work. I parked my car and entered the Cafe.

“Lenna! She’s here!” My co-worker Jamie says.

“Very funny!” I replied smiling. I went to my locker to put all my stuff away and looked at the time. It was 7:09. “I’m only nine minutes late!” I shouted from the locker room. I heard Jamie talking to a customer so I assumed he wouldn’t reply but only a few seconds later did he pop around the corner.

“I was here twenty before, why are you always late?” Jamie said holding a latte with a metal straw.

“We’ve been over this! I just can’t sleep, so I stay up until three in the morning playing Mario Kart and then I fall asleep, therefore, missing my alarm.” I said trying to act logically.

“That makes not even the slightest of sense. Just go to bed! Take some drugs or whatever you can find, but girl don’t be late! You’re lucky Lenna loves you.” Jamie said as he started to walk back out to help a customer.

“Okay, sure Jamie!” I started to walk out to the cashier when I ran into Lenna.

“Oh hello, Delia,” Lenna said with a smile.

“Hello, hows your morning?” I said with a very nervous fake smile.

“Just a lot of paperwork. You should clock in it’s-” Lenna checked her watch. “It’s 7:16, you may as well not be here,” Lenna said in her nice but secretly devil voice.

“Yes, ma’am!” I grabbed my card and speed walked to the register.

“Hello! Welcome to Lenna and Kate’s Cafe! How may I help you today?” I said to my first customer.

“Just a bubble tea and a raspberry cookie.” She replied, looking back at her phone. I swear I hate it when customers do this, they don’t even pay attention. I could tell them their total was a million dollars and they wouldn’t even notice.

“Alright your total is 12.95, I will have that right out.”

“Okay.” She hands me than money and then proceeds to stare at her phone.

“Okay, ma’am. Here is your food have a delightful day!” She puts her phone away to grab her order and then sits down and pulls it back out again. As I was taking other peoples orders, she just sat there and stared at her phone without eating, until she got a call. After that, she shoved the cookie into her mouth and almost ran out the door with the tea. This is gonna be another fun day.

~Eleven Hours Later~

“Jamie I am clockin’!” I said across the cafe, he was still taking orders and I was in the back.

“I have one more customer, wait up!”

“Okay fine!” I started gathering my things and taking off my apron.

“Okay, Taylors got the shift, I can go.” Jamie grabs his bag and throws her apron in it and starts heading out the back door with me.

“Need a ride?” I said as Jamie was picking up his board.

“Please! My dad’s been bugging me about Dylan all week, I need a break. Can we hang at your place?” Jamie practically begged.

“Yeah, sure! You live there anyway.” We started to walk to the car and I started asking him questions about Dylan.

“Oh, not you too!” Jamie said disappointed.

“I’m not gonna ask you if you’re still a virgin, but only because I know the answer! I just wanna know why yall don’t talk.” I said, I already know why. I mean last time they saw each other Dylan tried to force himself on top of him because he wasn’t ready.

“I don’t wanna talk about it, okay?” Jamie made me promise not to, so I guess there’s the end of that road. We arrive at my apartment and we both touch the door on the way in.

“So what you wanna do?” I said grabbing a soda out of the fridge.

“Your apartment is so empty, you need to find some roommates. They could help with the bills. I mean, you have two perfectly good rooms!” Jamie exclaimed plopping onto the couch.

“I mean, you could always move in.”

“Ha! Funny one, I can’t afford this place, I mean, yeah I’d help a little, but honestly, you need some real profit.”

“Oh come on! It would be fun!” I said punching his shoulder and sitting next to him.

“Don’t try to convince me, because we’ll both be sad when I have to move out.”

“Okay, fine. Maybe you’re right. But how do I even find roommates?”

“Craigslist.”

“What?” I asked confusingly.

“Craigslist baby. All the desperate are on there, and I will you’ll find your matches.” Jamie sounded pretty confident. “But you gotta post pictures of the apartment, and oh honey, it’s a mess.”

“No, it isn’t!” I know it is but that doesn’t make me wanna admit it.

“Girl, have you seen your room? It looks like an elephant went through your stuff looking for your eyebrows but it couldn’t find them.” Jamie started bursting out laughing.

“Rude much?” I threw a pillow at his face and he stuck his tongue out. So I flicked him off.

“Now that, that was just plain fat a** no eyebrow looking bi*ch joke,” Jamie said still laughing.

“That made no sense,” I said starting to laugh too. I think we were just laughing for a good 20 minutes before he got up and started cleaning.”

“Hey, lemme help!” I said getting up. Jamie ran over and pushed me back onto the couch.

“Um, no. You are going to stay here a make reasons why people should live here.” Jamie then continued cleaning.

I didnt know what to write, after all, I do suck at writing. I almost failed English and reading every year. But I sat there for thirty minutes just pretending to type something good because every time I wasn’t writing and Jamie looked at me, I wanted to run.

“You done yet?” He asked for the thirtieth time.

“No!” I yelled.

“Well I am, so lemme see.” Jamie took my phone and started reading. “You should live here because it’s nice and-.” Then I just spammed letters.“What kinda language is this!?”

“I don’t know how to write!” I said looking helpless.

“Fine, I will do it for you.” In not even ten minutes he was done with a whole essay full of reasons why you should live with me. “And that’s how it’s done.” He hands me the phone.

“Dang, this is good.” I then got up and took pictures, since it was the one thing I was good at and posted the AD.

“And now we wait,” Jamie said.

“Oo, Let’s watch a movie!” I said grabbing the snacks.
