The door in front of her closed with a wide swing, clicking lightly as it came to a full shut. She stared at the wood, wondering if they'd turn back and decide to say goodbye to her, but she didn't need it. They'd left her with everything she needed to survive for a month on her own. Money wasn't a problem. Shelter? She had the entire
damn
house.
It was ridiculously big and ridiculously empty. There was still a scheduled maid, but it wasn't like Allison ever saw her. Summer. No school. Nothing to do, other than being told she was expected to uphold her curfew, study and behave like a proper young lady.
Her mother and father had decided to go on a vacation after her father had finally been promoted to CEO of the company he was working at with a major bonus added on for emphasis. He'd worked all his life for this and now that he finally had it he decided to take a month off for the Bahamas.
She could feel a buzz in her pocket as she reached into it, the light emanating from it almost blinding her. She needed to find a way to distract herself from what she was feeling, an empty black pit in her heart that expanded every year.
The person who had sent her the text was her best friend, Oliver.
"Guess who's breaking curfew tonight?"
