Lonely Stars

July 18th, 1982

"Come on Saros! Your Mom is going to kill us." Galaxy states with a burst of laughter.

Saros looks up at her with a glare as he slowly lifts himself up from the muddy puddle he was thrown in.

"Little Starlight it's your fault. You decided it was fun to throw both of us into that disgusting water." He throws at her, involuntarily curling his nose up in disgust and wiping his dirty hands on his over worn jeans.

"Quit being such a baby. Anyways you know that it was so much fun so don't even deny it." She giggles and runs off to her house, not caring to check if Saros was following her because she knew he was. He always did.

She hopped and danced across the green grass of the giant meadow that sat right next to her wooden house. Saros stayed behind, watching with a small smile on his lips.

" I can't believe summer is almost over, do you?" She yells out into the cold night air.

"Yeah I believe it, but I'm glad because that means we're one grade closer to finishing elementary school."

"I guess we are, aren't we?" She mumbles, walking up her front porch and opening the door.

She quickly fixes up her messy brown locks and unwrinkled her bright yellow dress before walking into the house.

The horrific smell of burnt mac and cheese and the sound of her mom shouting out to nobody invaded their senses once stepping inside. They both looked at each other with wide eyes before taking off into the kitchen.

"Mom."

"Ms.Whitmore." They both yelled at the same time as they enter the kitchen.

"I'm fine." She stated coldly, glaring at the pair. "Dinner is done." Grabbing her brown bottle, Ms.Whitmore storms off into her room, slamming her door.

Galaxy sighs and looks over at Saros with a sad longing look in her eye.

"Well I'm not eating that, so I'm just going to make myself a sandwich. Do you want one?" She asks overly cheerful as she grabs out the loaf of bread and the jars of peanut butter and jelly. He silently nods his head and watches her make their dinner. Once done she heads off towards the door with Saros right at her tail.

"Where are you going?" He asks.

"I don't want to smell that burnt Mac and cheese all night so I'm going out to the meadow earlier than we usually do." She states, closing and locking the front door of her house and jumping off her porch.

"Okay."

The walk was silent and once there she passes one of the sandwiches over to him. She lays down flat against the damp grass and looks up into the starry night, thinking about school, the future, and the bright stars above.

"When do you have to be home?" She whispers to him, continuing to look up at the stars and the crescent moon.

"Before 8." He mumbles back, finishing off his sandwich.

She simply nods and picks off bits and pieces of her sandwich, throwing them on the meadow floor. She continues to think about the stars above before a question soon forms.

"Do you ever think the stars get lonely up there?" Galaxy whispers, reaching up to the sky as if she can pluck a bright star from the dark night above.

" I don't think so, they have so many others with them, they just can't get lonely." Saros simply says as he reaches over to touch the sleeve of her dress. " Plus, they have you to look upon and with that they'll never be lonely."

"You don't really believe that, Saros."

"Oh, but I do." He whispers to her, looking her way.
