Chapter 1

“Little Red. What are you doing here in the woods all by yourself?” a voice asked from nowhere and everywhere in the darkness of the woods, before faceless blood-red eyes appeared before me to my right. I am unable to speak and for some reason fear grips hold of me, freezing me like ice.

“It isn’t safe out here. But don’t worry, I will protect you from the big bad wolves,” The voice said before the moon-white glow of fangs appeared in a sinister smile.

“Miss Turner!” a familiar voice called.

“Yes!” I answered, jolting awake, only to be met with Henry’s scolding blue eyes.

He sighed, “The reason for this meditation is to try to unlock the barrier holding your powers and then controlling them, not for napping.”

“I’m sorry,” I said sheepishly before trying to stuffle a yawn.

Since finding out that I’m a witch, Henry, being a warlock of sorts, guardian of the supernatural, and butler of Moonwood Manor, has taken it upon himself to train me in my powers, but first, we had to unlock them. Apparently, a side of my family comes from a line of witches and had put a barrier on my powers for whatever reason that I had put a crack in, as we found out later when I saved Zack from his brother Demetrius.

“Maybe you both should call it a day. You've been at this for hours and she looks like she is ready to snooze again at any second.” Another familiar voice sounded from the room. I looked over to see Zack leaning against the far wall of the ballroom supposedly watching and looking sexy as hell.

Ever since that night in the clearing, Zack had changed. Well of course anyone would after hearing the fact that your older brother murdered your parents, was going to kill everyone you care about including you, for the sake of wanting to be Alpha because you were born as such instead of him. But that isn’t the only thing, though he was Alpha now, and definitely showing it, which was pretty hot I might add, there was one thing he forgot to tell me about with the whole werewolf thing. There was a ceremony that had to be done between the old Alpha, being Zack’s grandfather Abraham Moonwood and the new Alpha, and also the whole Moonwood pack, and something called The Council, was to attend, as Zack told me about just recently—recently being yesterday.

Henry sighed again, getting up off the candle-surrounded-chalk-drawn pentagram on the floor from where he sat cross-legged, “Alright. We’ll pick back up where we left off tomorrow. Make sure you get plenty of rest.” He said waving his hand, letting the sudden small gust of wind blow out the candles before leaving the room

Zack came over, reaching out his hand to me, which I grabbed, to help me up. It still amazes me that I ran through a forest, twice, found out he was a werewolf, saved him from his murderous brother, and yet still can’t find the balls to tell him how I feel. I’m so pathetic.

“I love you.” His voice rang in my head from when he was in my room a few nights back after what happened. Was that even real or did I dream that?

“You doing okay? You haven’t been having one of those dreams have you?” he asked, looking at me with concern.

“I’m fine. I’ve just been having a hard time sleeping is all.” I said reassuringly as I could. There was no way I could tell him about my dream now, especially when I don’t even know what’s happening.

“You should get some rest. I’ll take you home.” Zack offered, although the look of concern never left his face as we headed outside.

We got into the car and drove in silence all the way to my house, though I was trying unsuccessfully to calm my nerves. When we stopped in front of my house and I moved to get out, the chill of winter smacking me in the face when Zack stopped me.

“Nad…I… I hope you rest well.” He simply said, washing me in both relaxation and disappointment. I gave him a reassuring smile and got out of the car and went inside the house, beelining it straight for my bedroom, praying peaceful sleep will take over me. Or maybe sweet death.
