Manuel finds a magic baseball bat. It will give him home runs at will if used in a major league regular calender game. It doesn’t take long for the story to get into all the world newspapers. The Tampa’s Ray’s owner Franck Richantall who owns also the Tampa Tribune hears about the tale and likes it. It is good publicity both for the team and the Tribune. He gives a few dollars to Manuel to endorse the Ray’s uniform and sit in the Tropicana Field when the Rays play home while the newspaper ask the question : will Manuel play tonight? Joe Black is the Ray’s manager. He’s the one that will have to decide in the end if he uses Manuel and his magical instrument. And he doesn’t like it a bit. He will be the one to become the laughingstock when it twill be demonstrated Manuel performance was nothing more than a humbug. We are at the end of the ninth inning. The Rays are fighting the Phillies in the seventh game of the word series. The Rays are at bat. There is two outs. Three men on the bases. The score is 7 – 4 in favor of the Phillies. The crowd is going crazy. The want Manuel to come at bat. One home run would give the Rays 4 points and the victory. Will Joe Black overcome his dislike of the young man and call for his help? He sure won’t get out of the stadium alive if he persists in resisting the inevitable.
