Weekend Untold
It was a weekend she had been waiting for for years, well three years to be precise. Finally, her parents agreed to get her a car, it wasn’t everyday a girl’s parents agreed to buy a car for her knowing just how out of control college students could get but it saved her the stress of public transport and the added expenses, what more could she ask for? A guy? She pushed the irritating thought away and blew at her bangs absentmindedly as she ran to class, who scheduled classes on Saturday anyways? She was five minutes early which was a rare occurrence given her penchant for reading novels late into the night and snoozing her alarm three times each morning. Just as she rounded the bend that would bring her face to face with the classroom of her worst teacher, Mary Mallory, she collided with someone. She squeezed her eyes and firmed her fists to brace the impact with the ground but it never happened for two strong hands grasped her shoulders and steadied her.
She opened her mouth to thank her rescuer, but no words came forth, she quickly stepped back and cleared her throat. Her rescuer stepped closer and bent till his eyes were on the same level as hers, she swallowed nervously, the person standing in front of her was too good-looking for his own good.
"You okay?"
"Yeah thanks", she squeaked, fully expecting him to go on his merry way, she made to leave but a tattoo on his shoulder drew her attention, it caused chills to run down her spine, she couldn’t help but draw closer. It wasn’t so much the man wielding the sword but the symbol on the sword that drew her gaze. It was the symbol of a jade flower plant, she moved closer to the tattoo and ran her index finger the length of it, as soon as her finger came in contact with the jade flower on the sword handle tremor went through the body of the guy, she looked up to see him staring at her with eyes so big she thought they would pop out.
"That’s a unique tattoo, where did you get it?" she asked but her eyes were still on the tattoo and each time her finger encountered the flower, the guy shook visibly.
"Am I doing that?" she asked totally forgetting that he didn’t answer her question, he nodded in affirmation.
"I have been waiting for you for a century, my name is Kaden Jones."
"Sasha Andrews, why would you want to meet me?" he took her hand and placed it flat on the tattoo, Sasha felt a chill come over her when a blue light radiated from her palm, it felt like it was a part of her and she could have sworn she saw the flower move to wrap itself fully around the sword handle, Kaden staggered back and clutched the wall for support.
"What…" The shrilly sound of her phone jolted her, she had never regretted her choice of ringtone until that moment, the look of horror on Kaden’s face brought an embarrassed flush to her cheeks.
"Hey Dad, whatsup?"
"One of these days young lady I will take you to task on these slangs you use." Sasha rolled her eyes impatiently.
"Dad we are in the 21 century", she replied and heard him sigh audibly as always, she pursed her lips to keep her from laughing but that laughter was replaced by a frown at her Dad’s next words.
"Sasha after class please come straight home, no detours." Sasha blinked twice 'please!’ her father never said please to her, no, he commanded which meant he was hiding something.
"Dad what is going on?" Kaden moved closer but she couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
"Now is not the time to be stubborn or inquisitive, come home please, I shouldn’t have let you go for that Saturday class."
"Dad it’s not a big deal I…" she trailed off when Kaden shook his head firmly.
"I’ll be home, no detours." She heard him sigh before hanging up.

Sitting on her living room couch Sasha could barely remember what Professor Mary had taught, considering how annoying the woman was she didn’t regret it.
"Sasha because of some recent events we have decided to give you a dog instead of a car." Sasha stood up immediately and began pacing, the dramatic difference between a dog and a car further aggravated her pacing.
"Dad you know I have been waiting for this for a while now."
"I know Sasha, but the dog is better at this point, your mom and I have to go somewhere today we will be back by Monday morning, Kaden will protect you till then." This caught her attention.
"What does he have to do with this and how do you know him?"
"We will explain later", replied her mother but her father shook his head and held her hand.
"No, long story short there are creatures going around looking for pure bloods, yours is the purest because it has the potential to give them a human body, if they get a hold of you game over, just like your game, I guess 21st century is useful after all."
"Dad this is no joke."
"I’m sorry, Kaden will be here any minute", he said as they both stood up, the doorbell rang at the same time, Sasha closed her eyes and shook her head slightly as if to ward off an evil spirit.
"Sasha you okay?" When she opened her eyes, it was to see that her parents had gone and in their place stood Kaden holding a pathetic looking Alsatian puppy and a concerned look on his face. She started laughing hysterically when the puppy looked at her, a puppy! Not even a grown dog!
"Sasha! Get it together", demanded Kaden.
"I’m just tr…"
"Ssh, can you hear that?" Sasha swallowed her laughter real fast at Kaden’s alert look. He put the dog down and moved towards the kitchen, Sasha wrinkled her nose when a bad stench floated past her.
"What is that smell?" Kaden stiffened and turned towards her in alarm, they were here already.
"You can smell them?"
"What do you mean them? Something smells b…" She was knocked off her feet by Kaden, he twisted so he took the impact instead of her and at the same time pressed her head to his chest, so it didn’t get in the way of the sharp claw that floated above.
Pushing to his feet Kaden pulled Sasha behind him but his back was not enough to block the horrid view of the creature. It resembled a bat, but it had four legs, its great wings had spikes on the edges and its legs had claws the size of a chef knife. Sasha took a step back then another, just as she was about to turn her eyes skirted across Kaden’s tattoo then on impulse she stepped closer and placed her palm on his tattoo, the blue light radiated again, from her side view the creature was charging towards them as if it knew the implication of what she was doing, she certainly didn’t. Kaden stumbled to the side and she followed with her hand still on his arm then slowly pulled the jade flower out from the tattoo, the force of it pushed anyone and anything in it’s radius, thankfully the beast was included.
Kaden was on his feet first, he ran towards her and pulled her up, it happened so fast, Kaden’s front was to her, so he didn’t see the claws, she braced herself, and in that millisecond, she wished she was the one in his position. Just as the sharp claw was about to do immeasurable damage a flash of brown and black from the side flew into defense and knocked the claws away. Sasha screamed when she realized her puppy was not a puppy but a giant dog with scary teeth and pitch-black eyes.
The jade flower in her hand twitched, as if she had done it a thousand times Sasha squeezed the stem and breathed on the leaves, white light shot from the leaves and they took the form of a long glistening sword with gold edges. Without waiting Kaden took the sword and with practiced ease he jumped on the Alsatian’s head, using it as a boost he dived at the same time the creature charged forward but he got to it at the exact moment it opened it wings to strike and buried his sword in its chest, the creature dissipated in a cloud of black smoke.
Sasha slide to the floor, the giant dog now a puppy moved to her side and cocked it head at her as if trying to understand her.
"You are probably right buddy, I wanted a car I got you, I wanted an incredible weekend and I definitely got it, I’m excited for the next on", she said drily, and Kaden laughed heartily.
"A weekend you cannot tell anyone about besides the weekend hasn’t ended."
"Nope, it transported me to a whole new world of danger, how lovely." Kaden shook his head and chuckled, he made to stand but froze when Sasha wrinkled her nose in disgust. As soon as she did that she realized what would come next.
"I’m never asking for a gift again."
