SECOND GRADE
“Here Zaiya, it’s for you!” I turn away from my coloring books and look behind me. “Wanna lollipop? It’s cotton Candy.” It’s this boy and his hands are sticking out at me with a lollipop in his palm. I take the lollipop out of his hands. “Thank you. Jordan.” I say.
NOW
“He’s still sooo cute Lina.” I tell her leaning against my locker. Lina is my best friend and I tell her everything. She is the only one who knows about all my secrets. Including one of the biggest ones, which is my crush on Jordan.
“I know. He is super cute. He looks the same as he did in second grade.”
Oh, by the way we’re in 8th grade.
“I know right.” I stare at Jordan across the hall, he’s talking to his friends. Ace and Micah. I take a glance at Lina and notice that she’s looking directly at Jordan as well with the same googly eyes.
“Hey! Jordan is mine.” I yell, noticing how loud I am and then covering my mouth afterwards. I look back to see if he’s looking.
By the way he’s not.
“I’m not looking at Jordan. I’m looking at Micah. I think I might be crushing on him.” Lina explains. I look over at Micah. I think he and Lina would look great together. I just don’t really like the way he acts. I think he acts immature. But if Lina thinks that he’ll be her perfect fit. Then good for her.
“Yeah you guys would look perfect together.” Jordan and his boys, start laughing. And then they head off. And not even a minute later, the bell rings. “I just wish Jordan knew that I was crushing on him.”
Lina slammed her locker shut. And turned to me, “Don’t worry, it’ll happen someday.” She wrapped her arms around me and tickled my neck. “C’mon Zaiya, lets go to class and talk all about your dream future boyfriend, maybe husband.”
I let out a chuckle, “Okay, Okay.” I am very lucky to have Lina as my best friend.
