Chapter 1
“Mealworms!” Our mom, Jill, told us when she exited her house. We all ran over to her, as usual, but this time was different. She seemed, well, excited for some reason. Then, she did something REALLY strange. She grabbed our head cluck, Henry. She NEVER touched us unless we were hurt! “Was Henry hurt?!” We all murmured to each other. But anyway, I guess I should introduce myself. Hello peeps! My name is Pepper. I’m a 4 month old Bantam hen from Eugene, Oregon. In other words, I’m a midget chicken. Anyway, back to the story: About a half an hour later, Henry returned. Sopping wet, but he looked FABULOUS!!! We all ran over to him baching out as many questions as our little beaks could, but then he raised his wing, and said, “Ladies! Ladies! Calm down! I’m ok. Some of us are going to a show tomorrow, and it’s just bath day.” Well, that was a relief. He was the only rooster we had since Lil’ Scooter ran off. Then Henry turned to me and said, “Oh, and Pepper, your next.” As soon as he said that, I felt myself being lifted off the ground! “Wha- what’s happening??!!” I bached. “Hello pepper, come with me.”
