The Coward
'It always goes in a circle.'
She wasted away, bound in the shackles of pain,
Bound by their final word.
Unable to stop anymore, she rose
A raging fire in the evening rain.
From the top, there’s no way to fall but down.
She couldn’t fly far and was caught,
Robbed of her self made crown.
They watch as the maiden dies.
Squirming, whimpering, begging.
She’s dying, but she knows,
They have led her here, with their lies.
She looked at me dead in the eye,
Me being the coward, the witness.
Her eyes told me what she couldn’t;
“You’ll be next,“; No goodbye.
And the lithe maiden faded.
′ Another gone.′ I thought and sighed.
“People die.” They told me,
And I ,being the coward, relented.
I thought of my dilemma as I looked another in the eye.
As I lay dying, squirming, whimpering, begging.
My eyes told her what I couldn’t,
“You’ll be next,” ; No goodbye.
