I munched slowly on my salad. Why God do I have to eat healthy? I looked up from my bowl and saw Nancy completely engaged with her book. Delilah twirling her black hair between her fingers poking at the mashed potatoes on her plate. To break the silence I said,

"Eat up, Deli"

"Says you, you've barely touched your salad" she scoffed.

I shoved a piece of lettuce into my mouth when there was suddenly a lot of noise in the cafeteria. Well, more like cheering. It was because of the jocks. I almost utterly dispised most of them except...him. Josh Sandler. Captain of the basketball team, heartthrob of many girls. He looked over at our table, more precisely, me. My eyes went wide, i looked down at my salad bowl trying to act preoccupied.

“He’s coming over!”, Nancy said a piece of lettuce in my mouth when there was a sudden noise in the cafeteria. Well, not noise, more like cheering. It was the jocks. I almost utterly hated all of them except...him. Josh Sandler. Captain of the basketball team and the heartthrob of many. He looked over at our table, more precisely, me. My eyes went wide, I looked down at my salad bowl trying to act preoccupied.

"He's coming over!" Nancy said, nudging me and trying to control her laughter.

"Hey Janet!" His cheerful voice rang through. Look up you fool."Wait a second, why are you so red? Worked out too much during gym class?" he laughed I looked up at him. I hoped the gasp I made was internal. He looked absolutely gorgeous.

He was drenched. His Jersey was fitting perfectly to his chiseled body. He had that killer smile on, his basketball tucked neatly under his arm.

"Hi Josh." I said awkwardly and continued, "how come you're at our table?" Stupid, stupid,stupid. He laughed and said,

"Am I not allowed to be here your highness?" Oh I'd like to be your queen.

"Nothing of that sort, sit down." I said with a soft smile. He whistled, taking a seat next to me, he came close to my ear, I felt his breath fan the nape of my neck and he whispered,

"You're so beautiful."

I blushed like a maniac. This jock, the crush of so many girls, just called me, beautiful. I looked at him and saw him give me that killer smile of his. Thank God I wasn't standing or my legs would have given way. I hadn't realised my body had unconsciously turned towards him and the distance between us was only so much that we could hear each other's breaths. He brought his hand up to my face and tucked a few stray strands of hair behind my ear. His other hand laced his fingers between mine under the table. Could I just lean in and kiss him? I wish I could. Everything was going perfectly, when...

"SHE'S ENGAGED!!! Oh, whoops bad timing. Hi Josh!" My childhood best friend, Autumn said all this after having jumped on my shoulders.

"Hey Autumn" Josh said, trying to hide the fact that she kind of ruined the moment. I turned around and glared at Autumn. She grimaces and mouthed me a "sorry!" and sat down next to Delilah. I turned back to Josh who just gave me a sad smile, squeezing my hand in reassurance. Just then,

"Josh darling, where have you bee-" that sickening voice came in. A pair of heels clicked qne came to a stop on the wooden cafeteria floor. Ivanka. Ivanka Fonseca. HBIC. She glared at me and I narrowed my eyes at her, not flinching. She finally rolled her eyes and continued, "Josh, honey, I have a surprise for you, come with me." And winked.

Josh groaned softly under his breath. Just at that time Noah notices the tension building up at our table and walks over saying, "Hey little sister, is miss fake up bothering you?" I tried hard not to roll my eyes at my brother. "No thanks Noah, I don't need help i can handle it", I said. Noah shrugged and started talking to Josh. I notice that hadn't let go of my hand. I smiled at the thought of it and turned to Ivanka and said,

"Listen up, I understand that a lot of guys would be glad to accept your 'let's fuck' ticket but if you noticed we're a little busy here..unless..Josh?"

"Huh? Oh yeah, I'd rather stay here with Janet, Iv. Sorry." Josh said with a smile. Noah began to laugh. I elbowed him in the stomach and he smacked the back of my head. I stuck my tongue out at him and he chuckled. Ivanka glared at me one last time and said sinisterly,

"I won't let you get away with this."

Delilah then said to Ivanka,

"You heard her. Now, scram."
