“Hello, is this Rave Shadowend?” someone questioned when I answered my phone.

I and Avery had been calling around trying to find some place for Max to stay but we had had no luck. Nobody wanted a rogue vampire. Even though he hadn’t lost control since we took him in.

“Yes, who is this?” I replied.

“My name’s Seth. I’m a friend of Jessie Everette. He said you had a rogue vampire who needed a place to stay?” Seth replied.

“Are you a hunter?” I questioned.

“A turned one,” he replied.

So, he was like us, that’s why he was willing to take Max in. I was just checking to make sure he had Max’s best interests in mind.

“Where do you live?” I asked.

It was hard to run a house of vampire teenagers and shifters that all needed blood along with a baby one.

“Miami,” he answered.

“I kind of wanted to keep him close in case things went wrong,” I continued.

“I could come to you, us hunters live on the road, you know?” he answered.

“You know what? It might be a good thing. We live in a small town if we keep siphoning blood the way we are somebody might suspect things, we need to spread out, when do you think you can get to Marksville?” I inquired.

“I should be there by tomorrow, I’m at the Florida border right now,” he replied.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked.

Most turned hunters had enough on their plates they didn’t need another creature to care for.

“Honestly, I need a distraction. I’m kind of sick of hunting and I heard about Max, I thought I could help him,” he answered.

“Just be careful,” I warn hanging up.

Max had hit me over the head, locked me in a concrete box, and stabbed me. That wasn’t him losing control, he would have left and kidnapped a human in that case, sure he was an odd case but he’d never done anything to hurt me before.

It had been three years, maybe I didn’t know him anymore. But what I did know was he needed help and Avery needed peaceful nights of sleep in their own bed and not on Matt and Connor’s couch.

Maybe Seth could help him. I hoped Seth could.

Avery came into the bedroom and sat beside me. I hugged them, I clung, since we often didn’t share a bed at night we hadn’t really had time alone together in a while.

“I found somebody who wants to take Max in,” I whisper.

“Really?” Avery replied.

“He’s a hunter vampire. His name is Seth. He lives in Miami,” I answer.

“Miami? Can we trust him? We don’t need Max going rogue in Florida,” Avery replied with concern.

“He said he was friends with Jess. I trust Jess,” I reply.
