Discover the Island of Corfu
Corfu also known as Kerkyra acquired its name from Nymph Korkyra the daughter of the River God Asopos. According to Greek mythology, Poseidon God of the Sea fell in love with Nymph Korkyra, abducted her and brought her on this unnamed island. Through marital bliss he named the island in her honor “Korkyra” which eventually became “Kerkyra”. When they later had children, she then gave birth to the race of the Phaeacians.
Throughout the centuries Corfu Island has attracted the attention of many conquerors for its strategic position in the Mediterranean Sea. Surprisingly enough it has maintained its natural beauty, history, culture and traditional values while acquiring the beneficial attributes from its various predecessors.
