New Beginnings.
It was the same thing over again. Lux checked over her dufflebag once more, to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything. Hair dye, fake I.D, bolt cutters, fresh change of clothes, toiletries and a wad of cash. She had packed a few other things, but she wouldn’t need them until much later.
Her name wasn’t really Lux. That was the name she decided to give herself instead of the name her parents had given her. Gwenith Moore. She left that identity behind a long time ago. 20 years old and she had already done unspeakable things. Everytime she thought about it, it made her skin crawl. It gave her the kind of shivers that paralyzed her skin for a moment, making her feel...alive. She felt so alive and free. If she didn’t want to be Lux one day, she could be Victoria the next. Or maybe Penelope. The choices were endless, she didn’t need to be chained to the ground with one identity.
Lux flagged down a taxi, and climbed in tossing her bag to the second seat next to her.
“Where to, miss?” The taxi driver asked, his eyes focused to the traffic coming in on the other side of the road.
“Take me to 81 College Drive, Summersville.” She replied, reaching into the side pocket of her coat, it wasn’t totally summer yet, but spring still had a couple weeks left. She pulled out the wad of cash, and slipped two $100s in the cup holder at the front of the vehicle. The driver was about to protest the lengthy drive, until he glanced down at the bills and simply nodded and smiled.
Laying back in her seat, Lux studied the taxi driver carefully. Was there any pull? Could she sense any thrill, or sheer desire in taking his life? She didn’t feel the attraction. She wouldn’t satisfy her cravings with a waste of a body like that. She turned away, pulling out her earbuds from her Jean pocket and plugging it into her phone. Scrolling through songs, she finally settled on one.
