Prologue

The room was dark save for the candles that flickered on a desk at the far end. Piles of books and parchment were scattered about the room piled on and over stuffed arm chairs towering in immense stacks. Amongst the piles of books and vials of herbs and bizarre concoctions sat a man. He was a youth of a man, hair as dark as the night that he sat in disheveled from the many nights awake with his task. He had one the most average of clothes that you wouldn’t look twice at him, but days of working on his task had tattered them to mere rags. His name is Bastian and he sat forward with his hands under his chin, he stares at the pendant on the table impatiently. The pendant was sliver wrought into a crescent encircling a moon stone gem. He knew that any time now the pendant would come to life leading the way to her. It had been over twenty years since the pendant had last come to life and he was not going to miss his opportunity again.

It should work this time I’m sure of it. Bastian thought impatiently. His mind had gone to her, he knew that she would be furious at him for seeking her out after all she had gone through to protect them both. But Bastian knew that even with all the anger she would have that if she remembered him she couldn’t keep running like this. Bastian leaned back in the chair he was sitting in and grabbed the copper goblet that he had filled with wine, he sipped at as he wondered if the incantation had been wrong and if he’d have to start again; he had no time to start again. As he drained the goblet the pendant began to twitch across the table. He held his breath as the pendant stood silent for a moment then jerked across the table. Bastian threw the goblet aside and stood so quickly he sent the chair he had been sitting on tumbling behind him. He stripped out of his soiled clothing and dug about a trunk pulling out a pair of denim jeans, a button up shirt and pair of boots. Once he had dressed he picked up the pendant which had been beating itself against on wall and headed towards a brick wall on the far side of the room. I’m going to find her this time, he thought determined.

Bastian turned to the man in the corner; he was bound and gagged and had been like this for several days. Bastian had felt bad for binding the old warlock like this but he could not let him interfere with his search for her any longer. He turned around and walked toward the far wall that was not covered in papers and placed his hand to it. A light emitted from his hand and large symbols rotated outwards and in moment of concentration a light broke forth through the wall. Bastian took a deep breath and walked into the portal passing through the plane.

So this is the prologue of a new story I'm working on. I'm might post a few more excerpts here but this story will be made into a full comic. You can check at my concept art on Deviant art or on Tumblr which ever you prefer :)
