1 | These Day When Chaos Began

Kingstone High School.

Everybody had their own opinion about High school. Some might think it was the best four years of their lives, the others may not. Just like these two best friends whom had different perspective of High School.

“We just got back to school, and I already bored,” Willa groaned as she and her best friend walked off the classroom, making their way to the cafeteria, “correction, back to hell!”

Her appearance described it all, the blonde with light pink shade hair that tied in a messy ponytail, her least favorite shirt was already worn-out, tired eyes along with lack of enthusiasm.

Angela—her best friend let a small chuckle and slightly shook her head. She knew that Willa couldn’t enjoy school as much as she did. What could go wrong? She was like smartass kind of girl, also—the teachers’ pet.

But it wasn’t just that. Angela happened to be the co-captain of the cheer squad. Yes, that was her. The new kind of good girl.

“I know, Willa. But in my opinion, back to school kind of—you know, great,” her innocent smile grew even wider, “We get another assignment, presentation, clubs, and the best thing is that it’s our last year. We need to spend our last moment wisely.”

“I almost forgot that you’re a smartass, Angela,” Willa smirked, letting a small chuckle. No—small sarcastic chuckle.

“Ha ha, whatever you say,” She swung her arm around Willa’s shoulder and forced her to walk faster, “come on, you’re slower than a snail.”

“I’ll be the cutest among all snails,” Willa said, grinning like a freak.

The cafeteria was already full of people, forcing them to join the long human snake. As they queued, two tall boys turned to greet them. “Hey girls!”

“You’re just in time,” a blond boy whom stood in front of Angela spoke, teasing them. Rafael—that was what he called.

“Yes, you are right, we’re just in time that we have to wait because the line was already too long,” Willa remarked sarcastically. She held the urge to roll her eyes even though she really wanted to.

“That’s a good thing. This long line can teach you how to be more patient,” Rafael smirked at Willa whom raised her fist, ready to punch his solid arm but Angela grabbed her fist and put it down.

The whole school knew that Rafael Moreno and Willa Anne Morris were the definition of opposite attract—two people whom had completely different characters become friends, or frenemies.

The athletic blond boy loved to tease her from the very beginning of their friendship and found it amusing. On the other hand, she couldn’t leave him getting into her nerve and decided to mess with him whatever it took. All they did were fought, bullied, insulted, and pranked each other—every single day.

“You don’t want to get into trouble on first day, do you?”

Willa shook her head, “na-ah, but if he dares tease me again, I’ll beat him to death.”

“Oh, I’m so scared, Willa. BJ help me!” Rafael mocked her by sounding like a scared woman, clinging into BJ’s arm which he pushed straight away, “don’t you dare touch me like that again.”

Willa and Angela laughed at BJ’s disgusted face and Rafael awkwardly chuckled.

“Have you heard that there’s a new student, and is a senior?” Angela asked. Rafael, BJ, and Willa immediately turned their head to the Latina girl.

“And is a…?” Rafael asked, raising one brow at her.

“Boy,” Angela answered directly. Rafael and BJ rolled their eyes and brought back their attention to the long human snake, “Then, I don’t care.”

“How come I didn’t know that?” Willa muttered.

“Maybe you put all attention on me,” Rafael said proudly, turning slightly to face Willa. BJ and Angela just watched the soon-to-be fight silently.

“You’re so full of yourself, aren’t you,” Willa scoffed. Rafael mimicked her afterwards. Before the war began, Angela quickly started to tell them the gossip, “So, I heard his name is Romeo. And he happened to be Zack’s old friend.”

Willa muttered, “Wow, his mom must be a fan of classics.”

Willa looked around the cafeteria. Her eyes locked with two unfamiliar eyes and she was 100 percent sure that was Romeo. He smiled at her as his new friends—Zack’s group of friends laughed and chatted loudly.

“He got the looks,” Willa said quietly but the three of them could hear her clearly. BJ laughed, “I think you’ll be his Juliet sooner or later.”

“What a nonsense, BJ,” Willa said in a flat tone, annoyed by his words.

“I’m just trying to enlighten the mood, no need to be grumpy,” He plastered a thin smile. Some of his brown curls dropped on his forehead made him looked even cuter.

“Well, I feel so shitty. And I’m not sorry for being grumpy,”

“You always been a wreck when it’s first day of school. This is literally our last first day, perhaps a change might be a good idea,”

“Brandy, I love you so much. But I really don’t need a lecture right now,” She said in serious tone. Everyone knew that it was just another sarcasm. BJ raised his arm up in defeat while Rafael let out a chuckle along with Angela.

They patiently waited and moved closer to the lunch display as each student in front of them had their lunch and went to find a seat.

“Hello lady Martha,” Angela greeted the woman with chef hat and an apron wrapped around her upper body until above her knees. She was one of the lunch ladies.

“Ah, please Angel, it’s Martha,” she said before turning to Willa and greeted her, “hi Willa.”

“Hi, Martha,” Willa smiled. She gave them their lunch, “enjoy your day.”

“Thanks, Martha,” Willa and Angela said in unison before Angela waved her goodbye while Willa grinned at her.

Once they got their meals, the girls and BJ walked to find a seat while Rafael trailed behind them as he talked to his teammates.

The three of them sat together. BJ in front of Angela and Willa next to her. She put her bag beside her. Willa always brought her bag which contains her sketchbook and art supplies. In case she had some spare time or got bored, she would draw.

Rafael still laughed with some of his teammates—which were drifting apart. They joined the long queue while Rafael walking backward with his tray, not aware that he was already near Willa.

As he was about to turn around, he lost his balance and bumped into Willa instead. His iced tea spilled all over Willa and her bag.

Willa growled, wiping the iced tea off her face. BJ and Angela turned their head and facing Willa in terror. And for Rafael, he was shockingly terrified.

“YOU PIECE OF SHIT!” Willa snapped, “what is wrong with you!”

“It was an accident, I swear,” Rafael said, defending himself.

“Accident? Keep telling yourself that!” She grabbed her milkshake and threw it all over him made him soaked in sticky liquid, “I SAID IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!”

He got pissed. But little did they know, the milkshake was also wet some student behind Rafael. Without second thought, he threw his food at Rafael and Willa.

And that was the very beginning of chaos.
