Scroll 1: Athaelle
“You’re kidding me right?” Athaelle looked at the mess in her kitchen and furiously stride towards the living room. There, she found three of her companions lounging at the couch and watching TV. Boisterous laughter filled the air. As calm as she was, she called them over.
“Ronove, Sheila and Landon, may I ask what in heaven’s shit did you to my kitchen?” The three froze on their seat and they knew that with that tone they were doomed. Quickly, the three apologized and got to work. Cleaning the table and the sink, returning the boxes thrown all over and freshening the area up was done in 20 minutes. Athaelle marveled at their accomplishment before scolding them.
“You think that just by cleaning and freshening this room will brighten up my ruined morning don’t you? You’re wrong. I have told you many times to never ever leave the kitchen unclean. I know you guys are already spirits and you will go once your business is done, but please.” Her head ached at their mischief, but they were sorry. They knew her generosity and have taken her for granted.
“We’re deeply sorry, Athaelle. We promise not to let it happen again.” Ronove voiced out. Sighing, she nodded her head off before grabbing a bread to toast and her all-time favorite blueberry jam. Munching, she thought of today’s agenda. There was nothing much except to trade with a wolf pack territory and deliver a package to a coven. It was probably another macabre stuff.
After breakfast, she took shower and wear her daily uniform which was blue 3/4 shirt, black slacks and necktie ribbon which has a strange multi-colored gem on it. Sheila peeked her head at the door telling Athaelle that they will be going now. She did not know if it was to the other side or just out of her house. A simple ‘take care’ was her answer and her spirit friends disappeared.
The packages were already on her car to which she drove to the nearest pack village. The wolves walked and lived amongst the humans without them knowing. From time to time, there were rumors about sighting strange shadows of what looked like a werewolf but Athaelle knew that it was just one of them who was mischievous enough to play with the human minds.
Entering a hotel, she went to the clerk and told her about the delivery. Although she was not close with the Alpha of the pack, she was a close acquaintance. The clerk dialed for the Alpha and will be received well. Nodding, she went to the elevator and pressed 25 which was the Alpha’s office. While waiting, she decided to watch the view from the elevator. It was mesmerizing, and at the same time, nostalgic. Her parents often bring her to their office and do silly things in the elevator like imagining that they were about to enter a rocket ship or something. It was impossible now that they were dead. She never got the chance to see nor talk to their spirit.
“You’ve reached the 25th floor. Have a good day.” The floor looked more like home. She called out for the Alpha, but there was no answer. Before she could call again, a heavy body slammed on to her, engulfing her in a tight hug. It was the Luna of the pack. As usual, she looked like a sex-crazed person. Athaelle understood it though because they were a couple who could not keep to their selves. There were just times when she wished that the Luna would be a little decent when she visits them.
“Athy! You’re here! I missed you. Joshua won’t let me visit you because of the mating season. I hope you were not lonely without me. How are your spirit friends anyway?” She asked.
“They must have passed over earlier this morning. I would also like for you to cover yourself properly, Vi. I don’t even want to know what Joshua would do once he saw you half-naked with people other than him and me. Go back to your room and dress up, please.” Athaelle replied brushing her messed up black hair. Vivian Maple, the Luna, poured but followed her. Joshua exited their room with a yawn, dressed up in black pants and white shirt. He saw his wife return back to their room with a pout and knew that it was because of Athaelle.
“Good morning. The package is here, isn’t it? Thanks for the delivery, Athaelle. What’s your next trip?” He asked. She sat down on one of the couch while preparing his receipt before telling him that she had to go visit a coven for the next delivery.
“A coven, huh? I heard they had new young witches as of this year. They’re starting to repopulate again after almost disappearing from the face of the earth. Send my regards to them will ya?” He grinned. Moments later, Vivian returned wearing a blue strap dress with a white cardigan. She sat beside Joshua and looked blank for a second. They must have been mind linking, Athaelle thought. The couple turned to her and warned her about something.
“Athy, have you heard of the rumor of somebody looking for a person with strange powers outside of the wolves, vampires and witches domain?” She asked. The dark-haired spiritualist shook her head. She was quite far from the main city itself and rarely go out unless it was for delivery.
“Why is this person looking for somebody like that? And you two assumed that it has something to do with me?” The two nodded their heads. They knew that Athaelle was not an ordinary psychic who could see spirits. Hell, she could use magic as far as they know. Her powers were not that strong though but was enough to knock an enemy out.
“We don’t know how reliable this is, but we don’t want you to get hurt. Our patrol is already around the perimeter and even extended just near your home. We hope you don’t mind. It’s not only for the safety of our pack but yours as well.” Joshua reasoned. She stared at them before sighing. There was nothing she could do anyway. Vivian grinned before hugging the poor girl too tight.
After chatting with them for half an hour, Athaelle left for her last delivery. It was quite far from the pack village, but the sum was hefty. It took about two hours of driving before reaching the said coven. Unlike what other people may think, it was not a cave of some sort. The coven actually looked the same to that of a pack house. The only thing that differentiates it was the powerful barrier and aura you could feel from the outside. This time, Athaelle did not enter boldly. She waited in front of the gates before whispering a chant.
“Est veritas in cor.” The barrier opened a little and she was welcomed. She knocked on the door and was greeted by a young woman in her late 30s. The package was on her hand to which she passed on to her before writing up her receipt. After the transaction, she left with satisfaction. The money she earned for the day was enough to pay her bills and go to the grocery for a little shopping. The refrigerator will not fill up itself after all.
Athaelle was driving back to town when she sensed danger behind her. It was a dark figure gazing at her with intense purple eyes. Its sharp claws glistened due to the sun’s glare. Dread filled her mind as she tried to think of ways on how to escape from the hideous creature. She tried speeding up, but it followed her easily. It was a supernatural, and she knew that in order to defeat it, she will have to use her magic.
“Calm yourself down, Athaelle. There is no need to fret. You can do this.” She pulled her car to the side and stepped out. The dark creature growled at her and slid through the forest to catch her off guard. It was a smart move but not smart enough for her not to dodge. She read its movements and called out her magic.
“Ignis.” Her magic formed flames which hit the hideous creature. It shrieked in pain before slithering away from her. She let out a sigh of relief, but not a second later, it appeared behind her with fangs bearing ill.
“Food for me!” Her eyes widened in fear as it reached for her. Its fangs buried itself deep in her shoulder. Heat filled her body and she felt sick to the stomach. She could register pain in her body, but it refused to move. It was not feasting on her, instead, she saw marks appear on her hands and face. Before it could complete whatever it was doing, she weakly called for her magic to blew it away, possibly kill the monster.
“Rum..po!” The monster whole body started to petrify and it shattered into pieces. She dropped to her knees and passed out. The mark slowly receded back to where the monster bit her.
