Almost
HER
She made sure her brown hair falls into place almost covering her light brown eyes. She got the job here as an office clerk inside a lending company and that just made her be like a secretary trapped inside a cubicle. And she liked it that way for now. But her inner wolf doesn’t. She feels the rebelling inside her. She winced at her thought. She never expected that this would be the turn out after running away from her previous pack. And yet, she felt so calm about it. Here she was trying to have a normal life in the town where her mother grew up as a child as per requested by her mother. A voice calling out to her interrupted her from her thoughts.
“May, can you print receipts on this investor? And I need all of his transactions from the previous year.”
She shifted from her seat and turned to the white computer in front of her. Her current employer never even looked at her straight in the eye seeing that she looks so normal and like any other good employee, she just nodded to the stout man aging middle fifties and losing much of his hair. “Where can I find his previous records?”
“At the records section on the third floor.” He strutted back at his office just down the hall after a row of cubicles.
While looking around for the file at some steel cabinets, she passed down the corner where a picture frame of the current Alpha of the pack hang. She dismissed the idea of looking at the frame.
Staying low won’t make me meet the Alpha anyway. No need to know what he or she looks like.
She looked straight ahead on the file cabinets and started working.
HIM
He was restless ever since the weekend. Something in the air felt wrong and his Alpha senses are working overtime. He had all the immigrants checked and yet none looked like a threat but one caught his attention. The girl had brown hair and brown eyes. Something felt wrong as he looks longer at the picture but none of the information written on her screams she is a threat. No loopholes. Too clean. She was a local from up north and trying to find another village to settle down since her father died of a disease.
Very ordinary…No, this doesn’t feel like a threat. This is different.
He brushed it aside and continued looking at the documents at his office. His pack needs him to focus now. His Alpha needs to calm down for him to settle business matters within the city, within his pack. His huge muscles tensed and he growled low as he looked outside his office window.
His heavy steps thundered in his office as he opened the door determined to look at what was bothering him all day long.
“Brent, car. Now.” He ordered at the huge man in a suit waiting at the door. At six foot seven, the huge bodyguard was quick on his steps and rushed to get the black Mercedes in front of the 10-storey building.
“Tony’s Lending Corps.” His men all knew how commanding he can be since he has the position. He only need a few words and they all knew what to do. “Step on it.” He hissed in the passenger seat unsure why he was in a hurry to meet the girl.
HER
“Mr. Law is in front! Mr. Law is visiting us!”
May heard the shouts and shrilling voices of her officemates. The ladies are doing extra on their make-up and the men are all furiously growling and snickering at the news. She looked at her opposite cubicle and whispered to the only guy not fussing, Alec.
“Uhm, hey Alec. Mind filling me in the details?”
Alec looked at her with his deep blue eyes and brushed his hand over his beautiful blonde locks. “Mr. Law is the village leader and…a bachelor at that too.” He crossed his arms over his broad chest waiting for her reaction.
“Okay.” She shrugged her shoulders and went back to typing receipts. She was sure that her black sweater and leggings won’t make him even spare her a glance. Just the way I like it. She felt Alec staring at her with his jaw almost dropping, "What?"
"You seem unfazed by the fact that he is powerful and handsome and... Single." He waited for her to react but nothing happened. She just focused on her screen and started her file. In the corner of her eyes, she saw Alec smile and chuckle.
A few minutes passed and then the door to their office opened. Their manager, Mr. Tony was sweating behind his smiles while leading a seemingly angry man beside him, a tall angry man.
Time to go to the loo and avoid all these fuss.
May told herself and off she went to pretend she was going to the comfort room as all the ruckus grew bigger inside their office.
HIM
He swore he smelled something different in the office as he passed by. Something was off but doesn't possess the air of a threat. He scrunched up his nose but to no avail. All the females in the office wore too much perfumes that it covered what was just a faint lead to the scent he was secretly tracking for a month now.
And there he stood at the end of the hallway. The ladies confort room. It was the last spot he had that scent. He growled low.
