Chapter One

LUNA KIERAN

The night before I headed to bed, I had told my older brother Lucius to wake me up because I didn't want to be late for school.

"Luna!" my older brother banged on the door. "Wake up! You gotta get ready for school!" he yelled while still banging on the door.

I groaned tiredly as I sat up shouting, "I'm up!" which made him stop banging on the door. I checked the clock next to my bed which read 6am as I got up to take a quick shower, 30 minutes at most.

Today was gonna be my first last day of high school. And believe me when I say, I was quite excited. I was looking forward to all the school trips that were about to come, and the amount of time I got to spend with my closest friends. After I had finished showering, I decided to head downstairs and eat some breakfast. Nothing special really, just toast.

While I was eating, my phone rang only to show it was my best friend Joanna calling.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Are you ready for our first last day?!" Jo exclaimed excitedly. "I still can't believe we're Seniors." she said in a now calm tone.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I chuckled. "I can't believe it either." I added.

"Believe it!" my brother yelled overhearing my conversation with Jo.

"Was that Lu?" Jo questioned.

"Yeah, that was, being as nosy as ever." I answered.

"Hey Lucius!" Jo yelled.

"You're not on speaker," I told her. "Lucius! Jo said hi!" I yelled for her.

"Tell her I said hi back!" he shouted from upstairs.

"He said hi," I spoke on the phone as she just chuckled. "I'm currently eating breakfast, I'll see you at school." I said to her.

"Alright, see ya!" she replied before I hung up finishing my breakfast, then heading to the bathroom to brush my teeth.

"Lulu, are you almost ready to go to school? I still need to meet up with my friends." my older brother mentioned.

"Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go." I responded as I headed downstairs slinging my backpack on my back as I walked out to his car.

It was completely silent when we headed to the car, well not exactly silent because the radio was on but more like we didn't talk at all. Then something had just occurred to me.

"You've met some of my friends, but I haven't met any of yours." I said out of nowhere.

"Believe me, lil sis. You, not meeting any of my friends?" he said in a form of a question. "It's better that way, they're not exactly great people." Lucius finished.

By the time we made it to my school, as soon as I got out the car my brother drove off to meet with his friends while I met with mine.

I was about to call Jo, but before I was able to call her she popped up behind me attempting to scare me.

"Nice try," I told her with a witty tone.

"Well, at least I tried." she shrugged. "What class do you have first?" she asked.

"Good question," I replied taking out my class schedule. "It looks I have economics." I answered.

"Hey, I do too! Good start for the first day." she smiled as we walked to class together.

When we walked into class, the very first person we noticed was another one of our friend's, Kyle. You know in those usually cliché stories where there's a school heartthrob that everyone's in love with? Yeah, that was Kyle. We were quite surprised he was our friend too.

"Morning ladies," Kyle greeted walking to us as we entered. "Looks like we have the same class for first period too." he smiled.

"Morning Ky." the two of us greeted back.

Just to be clear, Jo and I were NOT interested in him in that kind of way, we always saw him as just a friend. And that's exactly the same way he sees us as well. Let's not forget to mention that he's not even looking for a relationship either.

When the teacher had arrived, everyone sat down in their seats quietly listening to the teacher. She was just mentioning what's to come this year and what we'll be doing and other stuff. Anyways, the class period seemed to have gone by quite fast. Before we even knew it, school had already ended.

"What do you guys think of your classes so far?" Ky questioned at both Jo and I.

"I think mine are okay." I answered as Jo and Ky agreed with me.

"Are you guys doing anything today? Why don't we go somewhere?" he suggested.

"I mean, if there's anywhere you guys want to go.. I'm down." Jo responded. "Lulu?" she said looking at me.

"I'm down too." I smiled, it was Senior year. I wanted to spend more time with my friends before the year ended, I wanted to make a bunch of memories.

My phone buzzed as I looked at it only to see it was Lucius texting me. "Do you need a ride home?" he texted.

"No, I'm gonna be hanging out with my friends." I texted back, no response.

"So, where are we going Ky?" Jo questioned.

"A guy's favorite place, and most likely your guys' too.." Kyle dramatically said. "The.. Arcade! Which is Dave & Busters." he spoke in whimsical tone.

"You had me at Arcade." I replied matching Kyle's energy.

"What a bunch of nerds." Jo teased the two of us.

"You play video games too!" Ky & I said in unison.

"Oof, you guys sound like a couple." she laughed.

"That will never happen." I assured her.

And off we went! To Dave & Busters to play video games. It was actually a pretty big place, it was bigger than Round 1 in Concord. Except, Round 1 had more of the cute stuffed animal claw machines.

Kyle went to a machine and got 3 cards for each of us.

"Wha— are you sure?" I asked.

"I don't see why not, I got paid last week anyway. And let's not forget how good I am at saving." Kyle playfully winked. "Let's go play some games." he said as the three of us started walking around looking for games to play, the first game we played that consisted of 4 players, but there were only one less was Tomb Raider.

Guess who was the first to be off the game, and in case you're thinking it's me.. it was actually Joanna. I'm actually pretty good with my shooting video games. Although, I guess you can say Kyle stayed in the game far longer than I did considering he spends more time playing video games than me.

"Well, at least I stayed in game longer than I thought I would." Joanna laughed softly.

"I know, I'm quite surprised you lasted that long too." Kyle said agreeing with her.

"I'm sure you'll only improve from here on out." I said encouragingly.

When we were about to walk away, out of instinct I turned around only to find myself looking at a cute guy. He had black curly hair, and dark brown eyes. And for that quick second, our eyes met. It almost felt magnetic.

"Luna?" my friend Joanna called out as I walked over to her and Kyle who were waiting for me.

"Sorry, I just— kind of spaced out." I told her as we began walking around playing video games again.

I wonder if I was the only one between me and that random guy that felt that kind of attraction. I wonder if he to was drawn to me, just for that quick second like magnet. But, it could probably just be me..
