Wicked

As she woke, she noticed a nice blanket and the lack of blood on her. Starting to worry, not just because she had no recollection on how she end it up in what it seemed to be a room, but for Lily’s safety, she was fragile and could only see blurred silhouettes at a distance. Her eyes adjusted to the lighting, two strangers were around Lily, they seemed elderly at a glance; Elizabeth wanting to get over her friend quickly, abruptly fell off the bed she was on, that’s when, the two elderly silhouetted people realized that she was awake. They tried to pick her up, but Elizabeth refused to be held; she leaned on the side of the bed sitting on the floor; her sight adjusted enough to see who they were, both smiling elderly people strangely dressed.

“My name is Markus Greenhill and she is my wife Marthe GreenHill” - he said.

“Nice Meeting you, young lady” - Marthe said

heavy breathing Elizabeth remembered little to nothing of the past, she knew Lily, by chance, and fragments of what had happened previous to being in the GreenHill household; blurred images of fire coming at her and nothing else. Looking down she heard nothing of what Markus said. She was trying to remember the reason why she thought she had been covered in blood. Lily called her name, that’s when she snapped out of it, looking up to the GreenHill’s.

The GreenHills noticed Elizabeth’s lost eyes, like a disoriented poppie; that’s when Lily asked who were they, and so they began introducing themselves to her as well. Lily unlike her friend was calmed. She did not know who she was or why was she there, her own name a mystery. All these things lingered in her mind, but she wasn’t too shocked.

Moving to the living room, the GreenHills started to ask Lily some questions, yet it seemed that she had no recollection of what the answers were, and so they relized she had lost her memory. They had Elizabeth where she was, but she soon went to the living room, standing at the entrance. She looked as lost as Lily from the beginning.

“I apologies for how I acted earlier, I see now that you are trying to help, and for all I know, you guys might be family or old friends, I don’t remember well... I do think that my name is Elizabeth, because she called me that... If you don’t mind me asking, what is the relation between us? And who are we?” - Elizabeth asked.

The GreenHills looked at each other, and so Marthe smiled, and proceeded to address them.

“Yes, you're right, so rude of you to not remember us, we are your grandparents... You might have amnesia dear, When... Where we found you, you had dirt all over you, we assumed that you fell down the cliff behind you; you two were unconscious, and stayed like that for a while; even though we did try to heal you up, it seemed that you guys were recovering just fine without our help, but if I had imagined that you were gonna end up like this, I would have done something.” - Marthe with a gentle tone said to the clueless girls.

Elizabeth and Lily both wondered how could they have forgotten them. Markus chuckled, stood up and left the room.

“Where are you going, honey?” - Marthe asked.

“Just to look some tea for our grandchildren” - Markus said, without turning back, chuckling on his way to the kitchen.

The GreenHill household didn’t look huge from the outside, as it did in the inside, long corridors and lots of doors expanded along the house like a maze.

“Now, now girls, I know you might have more questions, but, don’t you remember anything?” - Marthe asked them with a worried expression.

Elizabeth in silence stayed as Lily went ahead,

“Well, granny I know she’s Elizabeth, I don’t know my name, and at first I thought I was Liz, but somehow I knew that was her name and not mine... I wonder what’s my name, do you know granny?” - Lily very enthusiastically said to Marthe, something that Marthe took to her advantage and claimed that Lily’s actual name was...

“Of course my child, your name is Mary GreenHill, like my daughter, and you are Elizabeth GreenHill” - Marthe said to the girls.

Elizabeth on the other hand felt like there was something that was not being said. she still had questions, and when she learned her name, she had even more. "Why fire"...

“Grandma, are we sisters?” - Elizabeth asked Marthe.

“Yes Liz, you sound like you aren’t so sure, come here girls” - Marthe said while moving to the couch they were sitting, hugging them with each in one arm, trying to dispel any lingering doubts they might have.

Lily, now called Mary looked at her reflection on one of the artifacts that the GreenHills had. It was decorated on the side with a centered mirror, it looked like a very fancy plate.

“If you girls excuse your grandma, I’ll go check on your grandpa, he’s taking too long to bring that tea, lets hope he hasn’t made a mess” - Marthe said to them, leaving Elizabeth and Mary at the living room.

At the kitchen was Markus looking through the window, like he was contemplating the future.

“If I didn’t know you better, I would say that your hands at the sink meant you were going to wash the dishes” - Marthe said while approaching him.

Smirking a bit, Markus looked at Marthe’s eyes.

“I know they are not our grandchildren, but they don’t even know their own names properly, I just don’t want them to feel lost in a world like this, they are young and full of energy and love, we just gotta make them realize that”- Marthe explained to Markus, hoping he understands.

“No, it seems like you are trying to replace our deceased children, we can’t lie to them like this, we don’t even know from where they come from, for all we know they can be wanted by the empire, it is dangerous to keep the truth from those girls, having in mind what secrets can cause... I see your point on not letting them wonder off in look of the answer of who they might be, I just hope that whenever we tell them the truth, they see it our way and don't hate us for what we are about to do.” - Markus told Marthe while her eyes were crystalized by the tears of pain from those memories he brought up, yet she felt confident, that it was the right choice.

Markus looked down on her, and realized he was doing more harm then good to his beloved, and decided to keep quiet for a while longer, once they went back to the living room where the girls were, Marthe was grateful for how he was able to see the good in a wrong action, and just hugged him tightly.
