Chapter 1

I wake up to the sound of birds chirping and the sun shining through my window. I don't want to wake up, I don't want to get out of my comfortable bed but I have responsibilites. I get up sighing I hear my sister door open, she comes into my room.

"Shouldn't you be getting ready, you only have a week left of school."

She leaves saying that and goes downstairs for breakfast. I would be more excited that schools almost over, expect for the fact that everyone thinks I've already applied for college. I didn't, I'm still struggling on my application the only reason I didn't tell anyone is because in our community it's what's already expected of you. Everyone's perfect here and it's hard trying to keep up,if they find out I didn't apply I'll be in trouble. I go downstairs seeing my mom putting out breakfast on the table, and see my dad reading a newspaper drinking coffee.

"Hi Honey,how'd you sleep."

"Great,mom you?"

This is the ideal morning conversation. Noone really understand how I'm struggling in this society to keep up, expect for my best friend Sophie.

"Hey, Josh you should check the mail to see if a acceptance letter came yet."

My dad says while drinking his coffee,I've been checking the mail for a few months now for that college letter that's not coming. I go outside waving at our friendly neighbors to see nothing in the mail box, again. I go back inside to tell me mom and dad.

"There's no letter."

My mom makes a confused face.

"If this letter don't come by tomorrow,I'm going to have to go to the president to report this."

We look at mom, everyone knows that in order to report something to the president then it must be important and if it's not there will be consequences.

"You sure thats the best way, I don't think this situation is that bad honey."

"Of course it's bad,we can't just keep waiting for a letter we have to report this. Josh applied and the college can't even send a letter to tell if he got in or not!"

Arguments aren't common but if I don't get a letter by tomorrow things will be bad. My sister jumps in the conversation.

"Maybe we can just visit the college and talk about why Josh didn't get a letter back."

My parents thinks this over and finally say.

"You're right Lilly, I guess it's also better than going to the president."
