Sasha
Darkness.
My head feels like it’s full of sand and I can’t move it.
I noticed a strange beeping.
It grew louder more like a shrill then the dull beeping it was at first.
Slowly I opened my eyes.
I was encased a glass box that felt all too familiar, I looked at my reflection in the shiny glass and see these big round golden eyes of a child. That’s when it clicked.
It’s the dream again.
I opened my mouth to scream but nothing comes out.
“Wake up, wake up, WAKE UP!”
Just then I saw him. Those golden eye that looked like mine but slightly different. His chiseled jaw and hair so blonde it was almost white. He places his hand on the glass. “Don’t worry little one, it’s not time yet, soon you will come back to us.” He says as he pushes a button on the machine that was hooked up to the glass box I was in.
A purple mist starts filling the box and darkness surrounds me again.
Sweat had encased my body as I jolted straight up in my bed. Ive had the dream again. Tomorrow was my birthday. Every year the night before my birthday I had the same dream.
I looked at the clock, 11:59 PM.
Every damn year. Happy freaking Birthday to me.
I swung my legs over the bed and sighed. I knew I wasn’t going back to sleep. So I slipped my feet into the slippers I kept tucked under the bed and shivered. “Shit I’m drenched” I said in disgust.
I looked around my bedroom, moonlight shining in through the window. No one was here and I was able to breath again.
My phone lit up on the night stand. I sighed again knowing it was my best friend Rebecca wishing me a happy birthday at the stroke of midnight. I grabbed my phone.
“Hey I know you’re up!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Can’t wait to take you out tonight!! YOU’RE FINALLY LEGAL!!!!!!”
“Hey girl you know me so well! I’m gonna take a shower and then try to rest my eyes love you! Can’t wait for tonight!”
“The dream again?”
She knew me so well, she’s the only person I’ve ever told about my dream, and my past, my childhood. It wasn’t the greatest. I was found wondering the desert at 8 years old with no memory other than the fact that I knew it was my birthday. I was taken into the foster care system. I was almost adopted once but by the time I was 10 I was sent back intolerant the system. I don’t know why I was a good kid, but no one wanted me. By the time I turned 18 I had saved enough money from baby sitting and part time jobs, to move. I was done with New Mexico.
“Yea...” I responded.
“I love you! Get some rest we have a lot to do today! See you at 9AM!”
With that I put my phone down and went to my kitchen, on my way out I threw on my robe to control the chill from the dampness of my clothes. I had my own little one bedroom apartment. It wasn’t anything fancy but it was mine and I worked hard to get it. I set the coffee on to brew while I took a shower, I knew I wasn’t gonna sleep.
I started to undress as the water was warming up. I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked like Hell. My jet black hair was sticking out in off places and partially stuck to the sweat on my head. I groaned as I turned sideways looking myself over. I don’t look any older, then that’s when I saw it.
A small line that almost looked like a white tattoo started at the back of my right hip and made intricate designs all along my back. It was nothing I had ever seen before. I blinked and shook my head then then there was nothing. I must have been seeing things. At that I got in the shower hoping it would clear my head. Today felt different.
I finished showering and pulled my robe on over my naked body and wrapped my hair in a towel. Made my way to the kitchen to pour my coffee. I liked it sweet but not too sweet. 2 spoonfuls of sugar and a splash of half and half. I sauntered over to the couch in my small living area. As I started sipping my coffee I hear his voice, “Soon.” The mug fell out of my hand as I collapsed into the couch and everything went black.
