Chapter 1
I woke up, not knowing where I was, What my name is, and even why I was here. I looked up and saw a woman in a royal blue dress, and a man with a suit on. “Hello, Levi,” the woman said. Levi, why did I forget everything...? “Where am I”? I asked. “You’re here in the FLFE sanctuary, This is the place where all the new candidates for our new world come.“The man said. The man almost sounded . . . Robotic. His voice was electronic, but also human-like. I was so confused but also angry, Why was I here, and why don’t I remember anything?
It was late at night, I could hear chirping, I didn’t fall asleep because I didn’t trust anyone there, after all, they did take me to a “new world” without me knowing any information, or telling me any either. I was still curious about what “FLFE” stood for. . . Funny Losers For Enjoyment, I laughed to myself, how stupid this situation was, how I was all alone in a little room, not knowing anyone, and robotic people walking around? How was I supposed to trust anyone here anyways? I decided to get out of bed and roam around the “sanctuary”. When I went into the hallway the walls were all white and so were the floors. The place was clean, almost too clean. I saw a young lady with a uniform on, I still felt a little drowsy from waking up but I was ready for some answers. I walked over to the lady. “Hello,” she said, She also sounded mechanical, her voice was raspy but squeaky too. “Hi” I replied, “How can I help you, sir?” She asked. “I was just wondering, why I’m here?“, She replied quickly but also sounded nervous, “Um, sorry but you would have to talk to Counselor Wolly for that type of information.” “Why can’t I just talk to you” I replied trying to sound confident but I was also slightly nervous, so I doubt that it even worked. “I’m just not allowed to say, frankly if you ask me, you probably wouldn’t even want to know, so if you would please excuse me I have work to do.” She replied in an annoyed and louder voice. I was stunned, “Wouldnt even want to know” What was that supposed to mean? Was there some sort of issue, am I in danger? Negative thoughts were racing through my mind. Before I knew it I collapsed onto the floor and saw nurses flooding all around me, “Sir... Sir, are you there?” Before I could even answer, darkness took over my vision.
I woke up back in my room, the same as the one before, but this time there were wires and machines connected to my arm. I pulled out the needle and felt a sting of pain. “You need to keep that on,” someone said. I looked up and saw a younger man probably in his forties staring at me, I hadn’t even noticed him in the room. He stared at me with a blank face and nodded towards the needle, I stuck it back into my arm and let out a small grunt. Why did I even need it anyways all I did was pass out. Or was it worst...Did I stop breathing, Have I gotten a concussion, have I been here for days? “What happened?” I asked. “You passed out in the middle of the hallway, You lost some blood from your head from the fall, but other than that you’re fine.” Oh, just some blood loss from my head, that’s “fine”, I thought sarcastically. “So.. Who are you?” I asked. “I’m Counselor Wolly, I’m the head of the FLFE sanctuary” He replied. Counselor Wolly was the man that the nurse mentioned to me earlier, finally, I could get some answers. “I heard you asked Ms.Carie some questions...She told me that you sounded..mad. Since you couldn’t get any from her, feel free to ask me any questions.” He said. It was like he read my mind. Since he offered, I decided that I would ask all of my questions. “So, The first thing I want to know is, What is this place? Second, why am I here? Lastly, What is my purpose to stay here?” I was ready for the answers, but at the same time I was anxious, what if I didn’t like what he said? The man hesitated, then said “For your first question, This is the FLFE sanctuary-” “Yes I know its the “FLFE sanctuary” or whatever, but what does FLFE mean?“. The man stared at me and said: “The FLFE is a sanctuary for candidates for our new world.” “I already know this! The lady that I saw when I woke up already told me all of this, what does FLFE stand for?!” I shouted. The man looked shocked but also angry, He stood up and without a word, left the room.
Great, again no answers, my only chance to find out why I’m here just went down the drain. I let out a sigh and removed the drip from my arm and lied back down. A couple of minutes later I heard a knock at my door, I opened the door and I didn’t recognize who it was, all though I haven’t been here long I still remembered some faces but not his. “Um...Hello?” The guy asked. I realized I was just staring at him trying to recognize his face, I guess I creeped him out a bit. “Oh, sorry, hi,” I said. “I’m new here and I was wondering if you knew anything about this place, its kinda freaky, watching everyone pass by not knowing where you are, ya know?. At least I knew I wasn’t the only one confused, I thought. “Yea, I’m new too, I got here today and have no idea what’s going on but supposedly this is the “FLFE sanctuary”. It’s the sanctuary for candidates for the “new world” whatever that means. My name’s Levi by the way.” I said. He came into my room and sat in the chair Counselor Wolly sat. “Well, I’m Kai, and I guess I’m just as confused as you are. I did hear about the FLFE though, but I have no idea what it stands for, I think this is some type of hospital, there’s nurses, doctors, and surgeons walking around. But I also heard people talking about how this will keep us safe, so we can be candidates for the “new world”. He said.“Wait, so we’re not in the “new world” yet?” I asked.
“Not that I know of, All I know is that were some type of candidates for a “world” that they’re testing.” He said.
“So we’re pretty much being used as guinea pigs for their “world” that they don’t even know will work, and they’re not telling us anything. That’s great.” I said sarcastically. Kai let out a chuckle, “I guess we’ll find out” “I guess so” I replied. He stood up and said, “Well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow, or in the new world.” He said with a laugh. I waved, and he left the room.
Now I at least have a friend, he knows some information, But now I just need to find out when we’re going to this “new world”. If I’m being honest though, I was almost excited to be a part of this “new world”, It could give me opportunities to start a new life, even if I didn’t remember my own. I was guessing that I’m about sixteen, and so was Kai. Kai had dark brown hair, almost black, he was tan but was way taller than me. I hadn’t even seen myself yet since there’s not a single mirror insight, and I don’t remember what I look like, I couldn’t even describe myself. I was exhausted from all my thinking, so I went to bed.
I woke up, from someone shaking me awake. I opened my eyes and saw a girl, probably my age, tall, dark brown hair, and had golden eyes. “Get up!” She shouted. I got up and she ran, but disappeared. “Wait!” I yelled. I ran, when I crossed the doorway I fell into a black pit, I heard other bodies hitting the ground. “Hello?” I asked. “Where are we?” a girl replied, It sounded like the same girl that woke me up. “Maybe this is the “new world” “a boy replied, laughing. That had to be Kai, I thought. “Is that you Kai?” I asked.“Yea that’s me, your Levi, right?” “Yup, whos the girl?” I asked although I couldn’t see I knew it was the same girl from earlier. Before Kai could reply, the girl answered for us. “I’m Lila.” She said. “I wish it wasn’t so dark in here. so we could see where we are, and if this is the “new world”.” I said. “Same, I heard some of the nurses talking about how this would keep us safe, but I’m not so sure about that,” Lila said.
Light randomly filled the room, I closed my eyes, When I opened them, I saw a city, but this city was different, It had tall buildings, cars that were levitating, and even robotic people. I saw the man that was in my room when I first woke up, and Ms.Carie crossing the street. I knew they sounded mechanical, but I didn’t think they were actual robots, but they did look oddly human. I saw Kai, and Lila staring at the city, almost as shocked as I was. Lila started laughing, “This is unbelievable,” she said. Lila started running towards the car and got into the driver’s seat. Kai looked at me with wide eyes, I laughed and ran towards the car and into the passenger seat. Without Kai being able to enter the car, she started the engine and drove off, She was speeding fast through the city. “Ok, can you slow down a bit?” I asked nervously. She pressed the gas harder, and we were at least going 120 mph, I held onto the grab bar. It felt like a rollercoaster, all of a sudden she slammed the brakes. We both got pushed forward and hit our heads hard back onto the seat. I looked at her, she had a blank, almost scared look on her face, she nodded towards something in front of us, and I saw almost human-looking creatures, they had clothes, and accessories on, but no face. They started running towards our car, and razor-sharp teeth came out of their expressionless faces. “Go, Go, Go!” I yelled. Lila hit the gas and ran them over. instead of them getting caught under the car, they hit the windshield and held on. I had no way of protecting my self. I saw a cliff, and had an idea.“Jump out of the car!” I yelled. She looked at me with a shocked face, and I nodded. She jumped out of the car and fell onto her stomach. I looked at the cliff, the car was about to drive off, before it could I opened the door and fell out. I knew I would have some scratches from the concrete that I fell on, but it was better than being eaten by those faceless people. Lila ran over to me and helped me up, she looked like she was on the verge of tears. “What is this place.” She said.
“I have no idea, all I know is that I don’t want to be here," I replied with a sigh. I was shocked, why would they put us in this world with faceless monsters? How was this a safer place for us? I thought. Kai ran over to us, with a startled face, “What happened?!” He asked. Lila started crying, and I didn’t know what to say. Through her tears, Lila said: “These...Faceless monsters, started chasing us, they had metallic, sharp teeth, and only God knows what would happen to us if we didn’t drive off the cliff.” Kai looked at me with a shocked face, all I could do was nod. “I think we should get some shelter, I don’t want those creatures to come back for us,” I said
We all got up and went to the closest building. When we entered there were more robot-humans. I was scared but knew this was probably the safest place to go, I decided that I should trust these robotic-humans till tomorrow when we leave. “Can we get a room?” I asked, “How many people?” The robot said. “Only the three of us,” I replied, nodding at Lila and Kai. Without a word, it gave us a key card, and we went to our room.
When we entered the room there was only one bed. Lila ran over to it and jumped onto the bed. “I call dibs!” she said. I was surprised, a minute ago she was crying on the street and now, she’s acting like nothing happened, I guess she was just trying to lighten the mood, but it was still odd. Kai let out a sigh and sat on the couch, I ended up sitting on the floor. In minutes, everyone fell asleep.
