The Long Journey
The plan didn't go as expected. She dangled high over our heads, gliding back and forth with a rhythm like a bar of cement on a string. Her arms lied motionless on her thighs and eyes shut weakly. I turned because of a squeamish stomach; Roue looked, long and hard. She ticked her tongue in frustration and kicked some rocks.
I wasn't sure if she was mad that Abyssea beat her to the punch, or this tolled her. My stomach gurgled and my intestines knotted annoyingly. I looked at Roue and asked, "why look?"
"She was weak."
I tapped my foot against the soft ground and thought with my back turned. I couldn't look at her face. I was afraid her eyes could look through all my bullshit. It would be another reason to judge. "She wasn't weak, she was-"
"Weak, Grumbled. She couldn't handle it and she's not here. What do we call that?"
I shrugged, "she wasn't weak."
"How do we find Gara now? She was our last hope of finding him."
"Your guess is better than mine."
Roue threw her hands up in frustration then tossed herself down into a tantrum. "Did we even ask where we're going?"
“Now that doesn’t sound like us, does it?”
"What do we do? We're lost!" I shrugged. It was just like how it used to be; it was Roue and I all over again. When it all started, it was great, but all this had given me reason to believe nothing was worth it. I lied on the ground, shrugging uncaring. Roue paced back and forth, retracing her steps and nothing else. I didn't care.
This point, I didn't care.
I wondered what Amy was doing; probably face planting herself into a mud pie, or pushing Skye's buttons.
Both I wanted to see.
I did everything I could to stop myself from thinking of Abyssea. The image of her body burned into my retina's. Her skin was grey- I stopped and held my breath. I think this was the first time I had seen a dead body. Aqua didn't count, she was slowly dying, but this time it was the real thing. Everything in me wanted to suffocate; knot my intestines, rip my heart out, stir my brain with a chopstick, and howl like a worthless cat.
