CHAPTER INTRODUCTION : ABIGAIL
CHAPTER INTRODUCTION : ABIGAIL
My eyes skimmed through the crowded coffee parlour in search of the familiar face of the person who I once used to love. Scanning for a few more seconds, I was frustrated for not finding her till now. Also, the fact that I was claustrophobic did not help in this situation either. I was about to walk out of the door when a familiar high-pitched voice made me halt in my tracks. I turned around to find the person who I had come to meet here, my mother. She embraced me in a desperate hug but I stayed still, not giving her the satisfaction after what she did to me and my family. When she was aware of the fact that I won't hug her anytime soon, she backed off and cleaned her throat probably embarrassed. “So, let's talk about what I’m here for”, I started as she led me to a deserted booth in the far-off corner of the cafè. “Now, tell me what are you back here for?”, I asked through clenched teeth. “I’m sorry for everything Abigail”, she said as a tear cascaded down her cheeks. She looked weak as if she hadn't eaten since many days. Dark circles under her eyes due to the lack of sleep. Moreover, she looked fragile. But that wasn't going to make me soft on her. There was no forgiveness for what she did and there never will be. “Don’t sorry me Ashlee Brooke because you know you're not”, I barked at her. “You knew what you were doing but you still continued on it and now you come to me saying sorry?Do you really think that this sorry of yours will mend all the broken years of Jojo or my life. Huh?”, I continued shouting at the lady in front of me who was now full on crying. Tears welled up my eyes, as a lone tear slided down my left cheek. People were now looking at us completely wondering what the reason for such a commotion was. Knowing that I could break down any moment, I ran out of the place. Finally finding peace at a nearby park bench, I closed my eyes and cried my heart out. All the haunting memories of my past came crashing down to me. It was suffocating me. Why? What did Jojo and I ever did to deserve this? It was too much to endure. I wanted to die, leave the world but I couldn't. I couldn't because I had promised Jojo. My chain of thoughts were interrupted by my cell phone ringing. Glancing at the screen of my mobile, I came to know that it was Jojo. I received the call and pressed the phone against my ears. “Hello, Abigail?”, her voice came from the other end. “Hello Jojo, is everything alright?”, I asked getting worried at her strained voice. “Everything's fine, Abby! But you need to come home fast. There's something we all have to talk to you about.”, she said and by the tone of her voice I knew that it was something very important. “I’ll be there in half an hour”, saying this I cut the phone call. I realised that my car was still parked outside the cafè and with a frustrated sigh, I walked towards the direction of the cafè. The sun had started setting, meaning it was going to be dark soon. Upon reaching the parking space, I unlocked the door of my mini cooper, driving off towards home. It was a long 20 minutes ride when I reached mine and Jojo’s apartment and when I entered, I saw Jason, Chris, Alec and Allison sitting on the couch on the couch talking among themselves. The serious look on their faces indicated that whatever they were talking about was important. Allison was the first one to see me as she greeted me with a hug which the others reciprocated. “So, what did you people want to talk about?”,I said. The environment was tensed and nobody spoke. “What is it, Jojo?”, I spoke up with an irritated sigh. “We found out who killed our dad, Abby”, Jojo hesitantly replied as I clenched my fists in anger. Closing my eyes, all the images of that scarred day of my life when my father was shot, flashed before my eyes. I fought back the tears as I faced my mates. “What have you guys planned?”.
