Chapter 1: the beginning of a new start.

Lydia had always been peculiar, she took most of it from her father while he was alive. They’d always write books together and make funny little stories when she was young, sadly that all changed in the year of 2011, when Lydia was only six her father had sadly passed away and since then her peculiar ness hadn’t changed at all, oh no, but her happy face had...her bright eyes had.

Lydia went to school like a normal child and she looked like a normal child, she had a normal house and normal family nothing was odd or out of place, there was nothing awkward or weird.

But to her family she was weird, you see Lydia adored books and fairytales, her family didn’t like books at all but lydia loved books, they helped her escape her ordinary life and travel far into her favourite fantasy lands when she was down -they let her re-live her happy moments, that’s why any library was like a home to her. A haven.

Everyday she’d go to school (except for weekends of course) and do her work, go to her classes and surprisingly she did quite well since her head was always stuck in a new book, Lydia was very lonely though, extremely lonely if i must say. She wasn’t popular, she wasn’t even known. Lydia was a background character in her school of main and side characters. Of course the odd teacher knew her and it wasn’t like she was completely invisible but she kept herself to herself, you know? She let the world revolve around others instead of about her and only her, and she liked it that way.

Lydia liked being a background character. More than she liked books, but that was alright.

It was just a usual day, the sun was out which was strange for the middle of Autumn but Lydia didn’t notice. She was used to strange. Anyway like normal she got up at 07:15am, well maybe not that early... she got up at 07:30am. Anyway, Lydia got on her skirt and t-shirt, tie and blazer. She walked downstairs, her 9 year old brother was at the table, “Lydia did you sleep in

again

?” he sighed.

“Look Charlie i’m 13 i can sleep in if i want to.” Lydia replied saltily setting down at the table with a book.
“Ugh, you’re always reading those stupid books,” Charlie mumbled, Lydia ignored and simply rolled her eyes, beginning to slowly finish her toast.

By 08:05am Lydia looked out the window on the arrival of her bus, lifting up her grey, checkered bag onto her shoulders she opened the door and walked onto her bus, no “goodbyes”.No “love you’s”. And that was how it was. That was how it was since 2011.

The bus ride to school was never really her favourite, i mean who wouldn’t agree? A bumpy bus ride full of people you don’t really know, and the gum under the seats is horrendous! Getting off the bus was a relief every time, it never got old for Lydia. But not always... there was this girl, she went by the name of Harper and to the school she was a “Queen”.

This day, among all others will always stay in Lydia’s memory for this day was... let’s say stressful for now. Lydia walked straight past Harper, obviously the girl thought it would be funny to trip her.. so you’ll never guess what happened.

The bell rung, so loud even hearing it for the 100th time would’ve startled you, Lydia didn’t want trouble so knowing her just got up and left for English... her favourite class and with the best teacher. Well to her.

12:30pm, the bell rings, the students leave their 4th class of the day, everything’s fine and it’s all chilled out. It’s lunch so it’s going to be loud and Lydia wasn’t a fan of crowds and loud noises so she’d always go and sit in the library at lunch. It never got boring, never got old. Lydia has nearly finished this book and was desperate to get it done and find a new one, the book was about this man who traveled far and wide in search of a star, a bright star that would lead him home so he could give it to someone, it didn’t sound interesting but sometimes you just can’t judge a book by its cover.
