Chapter 1
Arias POV
I huffed while I stuffed my last bit of clothes in my dresser. Today marked the third day in the bustling city of Queens, New York. I had moved from my small town in Georgia to such a fast paced environment. I just needed something new and this was the start, too bad the bills here were so expensive.
I walked into the kitchen and turned on the stove. I was never too good for a bowl of ramen noodles and that would have to do right now as I was too tired to make an actual healthy meal. I opened my laptop and went onto my email. That’s what adult life consisted of now, endlessly checking emails to see if you got a response back from a job. I was just about to log back off until I got a notification.
I hovered over and read… Application Accepted. Interview date set at Wednesday at 3 pm. Bring resume. My eyes almost fell out my head as I read it over and over again. I actually got an interview… and at one of the biggest companies in Manhattan…. Stone Bridge. And what was more shocking than that was that the interview was tomorrow.
Next Day
I’m always an early bird but today I woke up even earlier. Nine in the motherfucking morning because my nerves wanted to keep me up. You could already see the bags forming from the lack of sleep. Well, that was ok, nothing makeup couldn’t fix.
I brushed my teeth and took a shower and then sat at my vanity table to do my makeup. Yes, I do my makeup naked. It’s to protect my new outfits I bought specifically for this interview. I settled for a soft bronze look to match my caramel toned skin and I brushed out my tiny fro. I had did the big chop after me and my boyfriend broke up and before I moved out into the city. I guess you could call it an early mid-life crisis.
I grazed through my outfits and picked the black pencil skirt white the white ruffle top. She was going to be simple and classy for the interview but once she got the job she was going to show how creative she was… well without standing out too much.
I gathered up the rest of my things and hopped into my van and made my commute to Manhattan. It was about an hour drive for me so I left at 1:30 and got there around 2:30. I could just walk around but I didn’t want to get lost so I decided to just go inside. It was such a fancy building, historic paintings on the wall and chandeliers decorated the ceilings. It was like walking into a Kings castle. Maybe Mr. Davis was actual royalty.
“Hello this is Stone Bridge and my names Samantha. How may I help you today?” The pretty blonde girl asked. “I have an interview with Mr. Davis at three”, I said trying to sound confident. I could see the slight amount of pity in her eyes until she blinked. “Well um yes. You’re quite early, I’m sure he’ll like that. He’s on the 21st floor. His office should be easy to find as he’s the only one who occupies that floor.” Samantha stated. I nodded and made my way to the elevator.
I thanked her before heading my way to the elevator. If the front desk lady was so nice, everyone else had to be right? With a small bit of confidence I stepped into the elevator which was quite crowded. "Which floor?", a small elderly man asked me as I was unable to press the buttons because I was sandwiched in between two other employees.
"The 21st floor please", I said with confidence. I couldn't help it, I was proud to have a chance of working under someone so important. The old man looks at me wide eyes then quickly changed his expression as he pressed the button. All the other employees look at me with eyes of pity and the ride up got pretty awkward.
As we continued going up each employee got off, the elderly man getting off at floor nineteen. "Good luck", the old man says with a hint of sorrow in his voice. Now this made my smile disappear and my stomach knot up. Everyone was acting as if I went up there I was gonna be mauled by a lion or something.... which I was hoping was not the case.
The elevator ding disrupted my mild daydream and I nervously stepped out of the elevator. There was two large black marbled doors that had those ancient Chinese dragon door knobs. I was guessing this person was cultural. I was getting ready to knock on the door when I saw a intercom. Maybe I had to speak to it.
"Ugh... I dont if I should go in", I contemplated to myself. A habit I had since I was a little kid, I tended to say things to myself when I was nervous or excited. This moment definitely not being an excited one.
"If you dont want a job then just leave", a bold voice said through the intercom. I jumped a bit, startled at the voice.
"Y-Yes sir I want the job. May I come in?", I asked nervously to the intercom.
After I asked the doors magically opened and I was met with a hard stoic face. He had to be of Asian descent. He was well built, big eyes, and jet black hair. He was undeniably attractive and that made me more nervous.
"Are you going to continue to gawk or..?", He asked with the same frown plastered on his face. I nervously pulled up my purse and scurried into the room. I sat at the chair across from his desk and listened quietly for him to speak. "So Aria I just have one question for this interview. Why do you want this job?", Mr. Davis asked. I looked at him trying to think of the best answer to his question.
The more I looked at him the more familiar he got. His voice was also very familiar. Was that who I thought it was?
