Prologue
"Zane, you know I haven't considered... there's nothing wrong with you being a boy, but..."
Zane sighed, removing his hands from the steering wheel. He peered over at Lexus, whose forehead was glistening with a thin coat of sweat from basketball practice earlier. They were on the same team, and just last week, Zane had confessed his feelings to the silver-eyed boy.
"Gender... it never matters."
"It doesn't," Lexus agreed. "But you do."
"What does that mean?"
"I just don't know if you're the one for me."
"So, who is?"
Lexus glanced out the window of the stationary car. He knew the answer to that question-at least, he thought he knew. "I don't know yet. I don't expect to know for another, like, ten years maybe? When I'm actually looking for love."
Zane turned toward Lexus the best he could in the car seat. "Lex, I care about you. I'm not the kind of person to get all in his feels-now you know that's not me. But I'd do that for you. I'd tap into my heart for you."
"I understand, Zane," Lexus quietly replied, not accustomed to smooth, sweet words.
"I like you. Give me a chance."
Lexus looked at his lap, contemplating it. If he did say yes, he'd be complicating things. Because there was a piece of his own heart-quite a large piece-that belonged to someone he'd known for a while.
Nonetheless, he pushed those feelings away, knowing that the owner of his heart might not feel the same.
"Kiss me, Zane," he requested.

W. T. H Lexus. Just because you don't know yet doesn't mean you go over Jack to that right away. what if you do this and then find out that he does.
