“Stella, isn’t that Ken?” my friend whispered in my ear. We’re currently at the school’s entrance and I just took out my umbrella from my bag when I heard what Jen said which made me look in the direction where she’s looking at.
My eyes widened in surprise and I heard loud thumps in my chest. My crush’s side profile is so handsome.
Hm?
Why does he look distressed?
“It looks like he doesn’t have an umbrella. This is your chance bes(1). I won’t go with you.” I suddenly looked at Jen with a hint of surprise. Is she crazy? Can’t she see this heavy downpour of rain! She doesn’t even have an umbrella.
“Are you an idiot? Do you want to get sick from the rain? I’ll go with you. Don’t bother about Ken. He’s just a crush while you are my friend.”
“Aww. How touching, but no thanks. I’m also hoping that someone would offer an umbrella to me that’s why I’m telling you to go first. Go!” she said at even pushed me towards Ken. Having no choice, I walked closer to him.
“You don’t have an umbrella?” I froze right after I said those words. Great, Stella! What a stupid question!
He let out a handsome smile which almost made me forgot how to breathe. “Yeah.“(2) he answered.
“You want to share with me?” I asked but then I quickly retracted it when I remembered something. I don’t want to look too obvious. “Where do you live?” Of course, we have to act like we don’t know where crush lives.
“Around the 10th street,” he answered as I nodded. I actually hoped that they changed address but it looks like they still live there. What a waste! We don’t go in the same direction!
I don’t know what to say since I already offered help so I’m too embarrassed to withdraw my offer. I stole a glance at him and he’s typing on his phone.
He must’ve felt my stares and he smiled like he knew my dilemma. “I know, you can accompany me until the convenience store. That’s where we’ll part ways, right?”
My face lit up and I nodded. “Then, let’s go. He smiled.
I opened my umbrella and he’s just right beside me. “Let me,” he said and took my umbrella from my hand and I felt his hand brush passed mine. My heart sh*t.
“Move closer,” he said and without waiting for me to react, he pulled me closer to him. I looked at him confused which made him laugh. “Your shoulder is getting wet. You didn’t notice? I feel ashamed if I take up all the space as the one who shares with your umbrella.”
I didn’t answer him since I don’t know what to say. I failed to notice that we almost reached the convenience store.
“Thanks, Stella.” he let out his bright smile which made me affected with it so I smiled back.
I entered the convenience store to buy something to eat. I suddenly felt hungry. I peek outside and I saw a woman holding an umbrella and she’s walking towards Ken.
I quickly paid for my food and took the change before going out.
As soon as I open the door I heard the woman scold at him, “I told you earlier to bring your umbrella. Look what happened.“(3)
I heard Ken laugh and he even pinch her cheek. I can’t help but feel a pang of pain in my heart. First blood. (4) “Sorry, babe. It was too hot earlier I didn’t expect it would rain.”
Babe?
Ouch. Double kill.
The two suddenly became quiet and looked at me, “Will you move aside? You’re blocking the way.” the woman said as she pushes him to the side.
“Hey, Stella! Thanks for helping me out. Oh, and this is my girlfriend, Hannah.” he said with a wide smile. Haha. Girlfriend. Triple kill.
I tried to let out a smile since Hannah didn’t do anything wrong. I should be the one who looked like the villain. “Hello! You’re so pretty!” That’s true, she really is.
“Thanks. You too!” she said excitedly. She looks like a nice girlfriend. Sigh...
“No way!” I retorted and we both laughed.
“Alright, alright. That’s enough. We have to go, don’t try to take away the time with my girlfriend.” Ken said as he acted like he’s jealous. How cute. Quadra kill.
Ken received a smack on the head. “Crazy.” Hannah looked at me with a smile, “Don’t mind him. He’s just kidding. We’ll go now, bye, Stella!” I nodded as I watched them walked farther away from me.
You can clearly see how happy they are with each other. I even saw Ken stole a kiss on Hannah’s cheek. Pentakill.
I let out a sigh and walked in the opposite direction. I don’t want to go back to this convenience store anymore. Annoying.

A few days later
I heard loud thunder followed by the heavy downpour of rain. Oh no! This can’t be happening! I didn’t bring my umbrella! Why now?! Damn it!
“Jen, do you have an extra umbrella?” I asked worriedly. She’s my last hope!
“OMG. Stella?! You?! Forgot your umbrella?! That’s new.” Jen said in disbelief.
“Jen!” I called out for her to stop.
“Sorry, Stell. I don’t have an extra. I’m going with Josh.” I suddenly felt sad. Fortunately, her plan last time was effective. The day I got my heart broken was the day that Jen met her boyfriend.
“Oh. Okay.” I nodded. I don’t want to be a third wheel, okay!
“If you want, I can let Josh walk you home while I wait for him?” I quickly shook my head with her plan.
“No, I’m fine Jen. I’ll do something about this. Look, the rain is slowly lightening.” I said when I heard the rain weakening.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course. Now, go! Josh might have been waiting for a long time now.” I assured her. She nodded and gave me a last look before leaving.
After five minutes, I walked to the entrance since I’m sure the two already left.
“Ha. Who am I kidding? Weakening? The rain looks like it doesn’t have any plan of stopping.” I muttered to myself.
“You’re Stella, right?” I suddenly heard a voice which made me look behind. I scrutinized him first and my eyed widened in surprise when I realize who it was.
“James?” medyo nag-aalangan pa ako kung tama ba ang pangalan na tinawag ko sakanya.
“James?” I was even a bit doubtful if I said his name right.
“You remember.” he smiled and walked closer to me.
“How could I forget? You’re my deskmate in elementary! You always helped me with everything! Where’s the cute James I knew? Give him back!” I said circling around him. Puberty severely hit James!
He laughed lightly which made him looked so handsome! “Do you still live there? I’ll walk you home. We walk in the same direction.”
My face lit up and I nodded. “Thank you, James! You’re really my hope in everything!”
He laughed and ruffled my hair, “Let’s go, silly.”

3. The same situation with #2. The raw said, “Oh, ano ka ngayon?” which I had a hard time translating lol. It just like, she’s saying that I told you so kind of vibe. Ugh. Idk anymore lol.
