chapter 1
“But Mom! Do we have to go?!” Catherine asked her mother with disappointment in her eyes. It was the last day in New York for her and her mother. Because they were moving with Aunt Hermione and her cousin, Veronica. Since Veronica’s father Hiram was arrested, they decide to leave New York. To a small town. Riverdale. And it wasn’t sitting with Cat very well.
“Yes, mija. Aunt Hermione and Veronica is going through a lot. And we are going to be there for her. Okay?” Danielle, her mother replied, going back and forth with packing.
“Yeah, but I don’t want to move. I have friends! And I really don’t want to move with Veronica.”
“Well.... too bad. She’s a Lodge. Deal with it.” Her mother says sternly, causing Catherine’s eyes to burn full of hatred.
“Ugh! This is so unfair!”
~~~~~
The next day, Catherine and her mother finally left New York and move into Riverdale. It was a small condo next to the typical jock of Riverdale High, Archie Andrews. But Cat wasn’t aware of that yet.
As soon as Cat stopped packing and adjust to her new room, she grabbed her songbook and start to create some songs. It was her thing. She wanted to sing ever since she could walk. When she tried to sing in the talent show in 4th grade, she froze. And everyone laughed at her. Especially, Veronica. Which is why they are not on good terms.
She continues writing until her mother walked in with a basket of laundry in her arms. Cat instantly stops writing and grabs her attention.
"Mija?” Her mother called out.
“Yes, Mom?”
“Veronica is going to explore. Why don’t you go with her?”
“Mom,.... you know how I feel about her.”
“I know. But she changed.” Mom said sitting next to her.
“Yeah, right.”
“She’s not like the others, Catherine. She’s different. And plus, she going to need a friend through all of this. So go. Or I’m taking your songbook.”
“Wait! Are you serious?”
“Yes. Yes, I am.” Cat sighed.
“Fine. I’ll go.”
~~~~~
Catherine and Veronica stopped at a diner called Pop’s. Veronica smiles at Cat brightly.
“Ready, Cat?” Veronica asked.
“First off, only my friends called me that. And yeah, ready as I’ll ever be.”
“Well, let’s go.”
As we both head inside, there was only a few people at their red-pink booths. Drinking their milkshakes. Talking. Which made Cat think her best friend, Jade. They were like the best dynamic duo back in New York. They never broke up. Jade was like the sister that Cat never had. And that’s saying something.
As Cat observed the place, a certain redhead caught the two girls in a hurry. Archie. And he had a friend with him. A blondie. Veronica taps Cat’s shoulder to get her attention. Slightly hard.
“Hey!” Cat whispered.
“Shhhh! Hottie alert.” Veronica said, motioning to look at the redhead. And she did. Her heart starts to beating rapidly and she blushes red. He was gorgeous. But she could never have him. Only girls like Veronica, can have him. A girl like Cat and a guy like a that could never work.
“Yeah. Why?” Cat said, looking down.
“Because, Catherine, me-likie. Follow my lead.” Veronica said walking towards the booth.
“Ugh. Here we go.” Cat mumbled under my breath. Cat then walks with Veronica to the booth. To see the redhead and a blondie.
“Hey.” Veronica introduced.
“Hi.” The redhead Archie uttered. Even his voice was hot.
“This is my cousin Catherine.”
“Cat.” Cat corrected her.
“Cat. We and our parents just moved here.”
“Wait. Really? There was this guy just moved in next to me.” Archie says.
“Girl.” Cat mumbled, raising her hand. “We came from New York.”
“Wow.” Archie said softly.
“You guys go to Riverdale?” Veronica asked.
“Yeah, we do. Together.” The blondie finally said.
“Me too.” Veronica said. “Do you mind if we join you?”
“Sure. Of course.” Archie said. Cat sat next to Betty and Veronica with Archie. “I’m Betty.”
“Cat.” Cat smiles.
“And I’m Veronica. And your name is?” Veronica asked the redhead, who was staring right at Cat.
“Huh? Oh, it’s Archie. Archie Andrews.”
“Archie? That’s a nice name.”
“So is yours.” Archie said with a smile as Cat blushes and chuckled. And The two just stared at each other.
“Ummm... guys?” Betty said, snapping the two back to reality.
“Oh, sorry.” Cat said, still blushing.
Betty and Veronica played it off as nothing and went back to talking and became friends. And Cat and Archie discovered something. Something that they never thought they could find.
Love.
