Chapter 1
“I don’t want to move!”
“Well, you have no choice!”
This was the conversation me and my mother had the morning before I was dragged all the way across the state to this new house. A house that’s right next to a graveyard.
I look at my new surroundings as a tear rolls down my cheek. I felt alone in this moment. I felt like nothing could make this experience any better for me and that I just needed to leave. So that’s what I did. I got up and left.
Was this a good idea? Probably not. I probably should of stayed, but at that moment as I was flying through the yard towards the unknown I felt free. As free as a bird soaring through the air. As free as a fish going downstream. As free as a wolf leading the pack. I was free.
Finally as I’m out of breath I find myself in the middle of the graveyard. There’s nothing but graves and a tree with a little bench underneath it. So I decide to sit and think which probably also wasn’t a good idea. I hear a stick break in the distance and stand back up in a threatening pose as if someone was really going to be afraid of me.
“Who’s there?” I yell into the unknown.
Nobody answers, of course, and I’m left wondering where the noise came from. Then I noticed how much fog had gathered around me. It got so bad I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. Then I see it. A figure looms out in the distance and I freeze. I didn’t know what to do. Was I about to get kidnapped? Or worst.. Murdered? Suddenly the figure moves and I take off towards my house.
I put one foot in front of the other as I run as fast as I can until something appears under my right foot and I fall flat on my face. I feel blood seeping through a wound on my face and I turn to look and see if the figure had followed me and see a girl standing there with her hand extended. I jump in fear but then realize she was around my age and probably not going to hurt me. I take her hand.
“Thanks.” I whisper in embarrassment knowing I probably looked like a fool.
“No problem. What’s your name?” She asks.
“Stone.” I breath out, still out of breath.
“Cool name. It’s unique and I like it. My name is Armani.” She smiles a sweet smile.
I look at her face and take in all her features. She had long pitch black hair and the lightest skin I have ever seen. It almost seemed like she was glowing. Her eyes were a diamond blue and were kind. Suddenly she reaches out and touches my cheek and I felt a dash of pain. I see a dab of blood as she reaches back.
She laughs a little and I notice a sparkle in her eyes and how her smile lightens up my whole mood and suddenly I wasn’t hurting anymore. What was this girl doing to me?
“I gotta go home,” I say quickly as an excuse to get away from her. I didn’t want to be dazzled by her smile anymore. She gives me a sort of sad look but lets me go as I walk back home.
And for some strange reason I can’t get her off my mind the whole way home.
