Chapter 1

Aubrey

The morning sun peaked in through the tops of the trees. I blinked letting my eyes adjust to brightness. I heard the water rushing in the nearby creek and the bustling of life in the forest that I called home. A loud grumble interrupted my thoughts as my stomach announced my hunger. Stretching out my legs and back as I rose to my paws. I trekked into the forest in search of breakfast. It wasn't long before I caught a whiff of a hare. Putting my nose to the ground I breathed in its' scent. After a few minutes I had the plump animal hanging from my jaws as I made my way back to the place I called home.

It had been two years since I was separated from my nomadic pack the 'Crescents' after we were ambushed by a group of rogue wolves. I came upon twenty of my pack members slaughtered in our camp and I could only hope the rest made a quick escape as I did. I tracked them for a long time before a blizzard rolled in making it impossible to find their scents or markings. I finally came upon a quite section of the forest where I made a lean to that sheltered me from the harsher elements. I had only shifted into my human four time in the past couple of years and it was only for a short period. Being on my own I relied on my wolf to withstand the harsh life in the forest.

I was only sixteen when I lost my pack and I only had the minimal skills we were taught as pups and those were how to hunt, track, and defend ourselves. My mother and father were the Betas of our pack, they were always busy attending to the Alpha, Luna and pack to give me the time of day. I never fit in though with my platinum blonde hair and electric blue eyes, even in my wolf form. My wolf was an iridescent white that shimmered in the moonlight. In contrast to my parents brown hair and green eyes with gray-brown wolves, which only made me more of an odd child in the pack. I enjoyed being alone most the time, and the peace and serenity of the forest felt more like home than with my pack.

Finishing my breakfast I set off into the woods towards the nearby stream. I spent most of my days lounging beside the brook listening to the water roll over the rocks. The sun peaked through the trees providing a warm blanket on my back. I had almost succumbed to a deep slumber when I heard the snapping of a twig. I shot up into a defensive stance letting a low growl rise from my chest. My eyes scanned the forest when I caught two pair of golden eyes staring back at me. A panic took over me as I had not come across another wolf in the two years on my own. My heart pounded in my chest as two massive wolves stepped into my view.

When the two emerged from the tree line I was surrounded by the smell of rain with an intense burst of sandalwood. I peered at the sky noting that there wasn't a cloud in sight. I looked back at the two male wolves, my wolf was whimpering in my head begging to be near them. Surprising myself I began to trek through the shallows of the creek in the direction of them. Once I reached the other side my wolf took over and sprinted in front of them. Letting a thunderous growl roll from them in unison the males held their tails up and stood taller. Baffled I felt my wolf lower my body to the forest floor and tilt my head to the side showing my neck.

The two wolves were identical in height and sharing the same golden eyes that burned like a fire into me. Differing only in color, one was as black as midnight while the other was a charcoal gray. Their scents were intoxicating it was all I could do not rubbed my body against theirs. As the thoughts drifted through my mind I felt my wolf do just that. Their fur against her made her shudder and dampened her core. The two wolves eyes narrowed as they took a deep breath scenting her arousal. Deciding my wolf had done enough I yanked back the reigns.

Trying to compose myself I put a small distance between myself and the two wolves. They both gave a disapproving growl and moved towards me once more. I gave them a low growl in warning that I was not in the mood. The black wolf snarled at my defiance while the other kept striding towards me. My emotions were a mess as I felt like fleeing but my wolf wanted to stay with them. A few moments passed they were but a foot from me when I made my move. I bolted across the stream and back into the woods, hearing their howls in the distance. Realization hit me as I scolded myself for not remembering that wolves loved a chase. Digging my paws in to the earth I propelled myself faster than I have ever pushed myself. I would not be caught for them to do who knows what to me. Regardless of what my wolf wants I cannot let myself be subjected to what my packs members endured.
