Kendall was setting at home watching a baseball game when his cellphone rang. He was dressed in a pair of shorts as he had just gotten out of the shower. He had spent the afternoon mowing the lawn. He slowly set up and picked up his phone to check the caller ID. The caller was his mom. He quickly answered the call. "Hello Ma! How are you today?" He asked her. He was in a good mood. "I-I'm alright, but I've been better." She told him. He could tell she was clearly upset. "Why? What's wrong?" He asked worried. He could her pause unsure. "I-I need your help. Look, Beatrice hasn't been to work in three days. That's unlike her... She's worked here since her 18th birthday and she doesn't usually miss a day." She told him quickly. He swallowed hard. Kendall and Beatrice had a past. They were childhood friends, first lovers and highschool sweethearts. They ended things bitterly when he enlisted in the military. "Look, we hadn talked in such a long time. Not to mention that she ignored me completely at Leroy's funeral." He told her. He could hear her sniffling, as if crying. "Y-Yes, but her boyfriend just got out of jail and he's n-not very nice to her." She told him. Kendall scoffed annoyed. "Yeah, you could say that again." He bolted. "Kendall! She's always comin to work with bruises. Bad ones." She told him. Kendall quickly became pissed. "Does he hit her?" He asked his mother. "I-I don't know. Just check in on her, please." Angela begged. Kendall quickly swallowed his pride. "Why me?" He asked her. "Because you've had military training and you can defend yourself against... Please Kendall..." She begged him. He again swallowed his pride. "Alright, I'll go." He told her. He could hear her relief. "Thank you. Keep in touch. Love you." She told him sweetly. He smirked knowingly. "I will. Love ya." He told her as he hung up.

He drove slowly over to Beatrice's house.
