Summary

‘Guarding the Dark’ is set in the current day, where humans and supernatural creatures co-exist. Supernatural beings, much like humans, must obey specific laws or face consequences. Those supernatural beings who participate in criminal activity are dealt with by the Supernatural Police Department (S.P.D.). ‘Guarding the Dark’ begins at the S.P.D. Academy, where the tall, handsome protagonist Brendan Farmer is joined by nine fresh faced recruits on their first day as inductees. Farmer and the other recruits will have to endure training that will push them to their absolute physical and mental limits. To add to this pressure, the recruits must live together in close quarters, putting further strain on individuals and the group as whole. Farmer graduates from the academy, but first year is a difficult one, as he gets little or no respect from his peers. During this time the harmony between humans and supernatural beings is threatened by the arrival of the infamous Count Dracula. Far from being the enemy, Farmer secretly befriends Dracula who aids him in ridding the world of supernatural evildoers. The real threat is Dracula’s wife, Esmerelda, who has wittingly infiltrated the ranks of the S.P.D. and is now the Commissioner.
