Chapter One and Only
“Father,” A young boy, age five, asked his father.
“Hmm?” His father replied, busily studying a textbook.
To break the ice, the boy nervously asked.
“What are you reading?”
“Word War 2 book.” His father didn’t even look up, just tapped the front cover of the book and murmured those few soft words.
“Can I ask you something?”
This made the father put his book away.
“Anything, James.” He answered.
“When I die, will I go to heaven?”
“Of course, if you’re a good boy.” The father pulled little James up on his lap. “But why do you ask?”
“Because,” James hesitated. “-because I’m afraid to die.”
“So am I. In truth, way down deep, we all are scared of dieing. We don’t want to leave behind the ones we love. But it’s just a thing everyone had to go through. Basically the good Lord loves you and wants you to join him. Sometimes he takes people in their 20’s, people in their 40’s, even 80’s. Live out your life the best you can, and you won’t be afraid anymore.”
“Thanks.” James said, sliding off his father’s lap.
“No problem, sonny.”
