Chapter 1 How is love easier? (Darlene)
“Mom why do we have to wear masks?” I asked my mother while holding her hand as we crossed the street. “Well, we mostly do it to make relationships easier,” My Mom said smiling through her dark pink fox mask. “How can relationships be easier if you wear a mask?” I questioned. My mother looked deep into my eyes before saying,“Darlene, you should know that before the government decided to make everyone wear masks, relationships were all based on looks, not personality.” Mom’s smile started to fade. She was thinking about dad, and how he left her after “The Mask Rule” was established. “Mom, are you all right?” I asked getting worried. She was startled a bit when I asked her this. “Oh, umm...yes...don’t mind me.” I could hear her whimper a bit but she didn’t show any signs of crying.
After a while we finally arrived at the store, The Mask store to be percise. I was finally old enough to wear a mask, and I would get to choose any style I want!
