Prologue
Gifts. Gifts that everyone was born with, they can be useful to the past, present, and future. Everyone has experienced gifts since they started growing up. But gifts are different from abilities. Abilities are something that some are born with, but abilities are a useful power. Such as the sixth sense. The sixth sense is powerful to humans because it warns them of what’s coming, it could be something good or bad... or evil. Anyone who does not know it becomes too late from fixing it. Or anyone who distrusts that ability, have been distrusting themselves.
Scarlett O’Sawyer experienced the ability, her ability. The ability to sense danger around her, a great ability that brought her to this day. The day she is going to take down one of The Devil’s Tribe’s members and prevent him from succeeding in his plan.
Scarlett had her gun in her hand, her finger wasn’t close to the trigger. She never thought about pulling it any time soon. Although the gun could be a great use, bullets were in the gun, and the safety has been turned off. So why not use it and get the job done? Well, Scarlett is no fool. She knows if she ever has to pull the trigger, having the bullet kill the suspect, she will become a whole different person. Now that is someone she does not want to be. Scarlett is on a mission, and the mission is to take down the criminal and lock him so he can pay for his crimes. And this suspect has two hostages that have bombs strapped to their bodies. One was in the suspect’s hold and the other is trapped inside the train along with the other hostages.
Giving out a sigh, Scarlett turns back the safety and stuffs the loaded gun back in her holster. She takes a peek out of the wall where she stands. The suspect has been yelling at Lieutenant Jordan Walker and other officers. Everyone had their guns in their hand and their eyes, they were ready to fire when they are given direct orders. However, Lieutenant Walker didn’t have his gun in his hand, but he had tried calming the suspect, who holds a gun to a hostage’s head. An innocent woman who kept on crying and pleads for the police to get her out of the situation, and an innocent hostage who had a bomb strapped onto her body.
“Don’t come any closer,” the suspect starts. “or I will kill her. Do you hear me?!?” The hostage lets out a shriek when the suspect threatened the police.
“Okay, just calm down. Let the innocent woman go. You can surrender and come with us-”
“Shut up!” the suspect yells and points the gun to Lieutenant Walker, while his left arm still the hostage in place by her throat.
Lieutenant Walker and the other officers stood in their position, some have stiffened from the suspect’s action. Scarlett turns from peeking to hiding. She rests her head against the wall and lets her golden-like eyes rest. She has been through a lot of missions but this mission is taking her back to her past. Hearing it was shocking back from the precinct but now facing it, it became hard for her to process it. Scarlett is not going to allow for the plan to succeed like she failed to do it in the past.
Opening her eyes, Scarlett moves out from her hiding place and walks towards with stealth. Lieutenant Walker looks in the corner of his eye that Scarlett is moving quietly towards the suspect. He then turns back to the suspect who still had his gun pointing directly to him and the other officers. He tries talking to him again. Once Scarlett was close, she bites the inside of her cheek, her eyes travel to the suspect’s position. One arm on the suspect and one pointing at the crew. Scarlett knew this position and was trained to know how to take them down with one technique. She runs to him, her arms extend, her hands grab his wrists that hold the gun and she raises his arm. The suspect shoots the ceiling and the hostage screams. Scarlett knees him in the abdomen hard, causing him to release his hold of the hostage but not his gun. The hostage runs to Lieutenant Walker and he grabs her and stands in front of her, protecting her from the criminal.
Scarlett uppercuts the suspect, causing him to release the hold of his gun, and drops to the floor. He tries getting back up again but Scarlett pushes him down. He struggles underneath Scarlett, Scarlett didn’t have an impressed expression on her face. She had him underneath her and he isn’t even that strong to get out of her hold. After all, the man is slim.
“Let go of me! You little bitch!” The suspect yells out. Scarlett paid no mind to his antics but takes out her handcuffs from her belt, and puts them on the suspect’s wrists. “You’re going to regret it!”
Scarlett narrows her eyes in boredom, hearing that line again just made her get used to hearing. In the corner of her mouth, it twitched up and she cocks her head to the side. “Yeah, I highly doubt I ever will.” Scarlett picks up the suspect from the floor while she kept a hold of him.
Two officers came forward to the suspect, one got a hold on the suspect’s right arm and the other got a hold on the left arm. They drag the suspect out while the suspect kept on kicking in the air trying to get released from the officers’ hold.
“You will all regret it! The Devil’s Tribe will prevail! Do you hear me!?! This isn’t over! The suspect yells out, creating an echo throughout the room.
Scarlett just watches the suspect being dragged out completely out of the room. Scarlett sighs and narrows her eyes to the floor. She truly does wish for it to be over. The Devil’s Tribe has been active for far too long and wants all in them in jail where they belong.
“Um, excuse me.”
Scarlett turns to the sensitive voice. A tall and yet a bit slim woman with short blonde curly hair, who also has eyeshadow that is ruined from her tears and is wearing a green sleeveless dress. A woman who happens to look in her thirties. The hostage who was held captive under the suspect’s hold. She no longer had the bomb strapped around her body, it’s a good thing that it was never on. “Yes, ma’am?” Scarlett asks with a stern yet kind voice.
The woman opens her mouth to say something and closes it again. She struggles to find the right words, “I just wanted to say...I...uh...” Scarlett knew what she was going to say but decides to let her find the words without rudely interrupting her. Without a blink of an eye, the woman wrapped her arms around Scarlett. This surprised Scarlett and opens her mouth to say something, but she didn’t. “Thank you.” the woman says in a low voice.
Scarlett wraps her arms around the woman slowly and gives her small and gently pat on the back. They break the hug and the woman smiles at Scarlett. Scarlett returns the smile with a small one and nods her head approvingly. The woman then was taken by a kind officer to the medic to rest and check for any injuries. As for the other hostages they were out of the train and were also given medical treatment. Some officers asked a few questions and try not to pressure them too much.
“Officer O’Sawyer.” Lieutenant Walker calls out from behind.
Scarlett turns around to meet the Lieutenant’s gaze and gives him a small smile and a nod, ” Yes, Lieutenant Walker?”
“You did a great job today. I expect a report about this.” Lieutenant Walker says with a stern tone.
“Thank you, and I will report this immediately.” Scarlett was about to walk past him, but he stops her by stepping in front.
“Are you still up for dinner?” Jordan says with a smile. He has simply changed roles to Lieutenant to a loving boyfriend.
Scarlett gives him a sweet grin, “Actually I’m busy tonight. Those papers aren’t going to fill them up themselves. But I’m positive that I will be free on Wednesday.”
Jordan grins and says, “Alright I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll be making sure to put a cup of coffee on your desk.”
Scarlett cringes a little and makes sure that Jordan didn’t see it. She forces a smile on her face and inhales through her nostrils. “Great...” she says slowly, her tone not too exciting. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” Scarlett pats Jordan’s shoulder and walks past him.
Scarlett walks out of the train station when she steps out of the doors she sees the criminal being put in the car. Scarlett watches the officers put him in the back of the car, then one officer gets in the passenger seat and the other gets in the driver’s seat. The driver turns on the car, reverses, and gets out of the parking lot. Before the driver could have moved forward the criminal looks at the window to see the officer who caught him. He looks at her with a chilly stare as if he tried his hardest to kill Scarlett with just his stare. Scarlett just stares at him blankly and watches the car finally move and the stare disappears from her sight.
Scarlett got to the car, she unlocks the car with her keys, opens the driver’s door, and sits inside. She closes the door and slumps in her seat wishing for the seat to just swallow her. Scarlett stares up in the ceiling for a moment, soon tears started to flow down her cheeks. “I stopped it...” she starts with a sob, “I stopped it but I-argh!” Scarlett sits back straight and slams her hands on the wheel. “Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Goddammit, why!?! Why couldn’t I stop it in the beginning!” Scarlett screams from the top of her lungs as she continues to cry and kept slamming her palms on the wheel. It felt like hours but it took a few minutes for Scarlett to breakdown. She lets her head rest on the wheel and sighs out in exhaustion.
