Chapter One
Tobi stood in the middle of the woods with nothing but dirt, ice and frozen leaves and branches under her feet.Letting out a deep breathe she notice that she could see her breath in the air, she looked around for a sign to indicate why she was here. However nothing came of it, all she could see and she could feel was some form of darkness around her and the only source of light to break threw the tall tree’s of the forest was the full moon.
Suddenly from the left Tobi heard the rustling of leaves and then she heard it from the far right of her as well. The same sound repeated itself and again Tobi let out another heavy sigh, she listened closely to the sound and it was as if she was being circled by something. In an attempt to gain her bearings she did another full circle, trying her best to look for something a way out of this. She all of a sudden grabbed onto her head as a painful ringing noise began to worm its way around, dropping to her knees she couldn’t take it as her head was pounding with pain.
“Stop” she begged she mentally wanted to scream at the supernatural force but she couldn’t all she could do was whisper because her throat was so hoarse.
Moments passed and nothing could be heard but that ringing noise in her head and just as she was about to give up hope the noise was pulled out of her head. Her long ash blonde hair fell in front of her face, placing her hands firmly on the ground she did her best to steady her breathing so she didn’t loose consciousness. Again as the ringing in her ears came to a stop she could hear the rustling of leaves surround he again.
“Who’s there?” she said as she stood up.
Nothing no sounds came apart from the rustling of the leaves circling her.
“I said who’s there?” Tobi shouted as she became impatient with whatever was out there.
She wasn’t one to be afraid of things that went bump in the night and she had read to many thriller novels to know the outcome of situations like this. Her Grandmother always told her that the worst thing she could ever fear was death as it was such an ordinary thing within life, therefore you should just live because at the end of the day you aren’t going to be able to live forever. It was silly but she found comfort in them words, she always had and always will.
“For God’s sake show yourself or remain a coward I don’t care, just finish me already” she practically screamed.
A branch suddenly snapped behind Tobi, she could here something breathing and it didn’t sound human. She closed her eyes for a brief moment and steadied her breath, the hairs on the back of her neck stood to attention when she heard the creature behind her let out a growl as if it was demanding she turned around and pay attention to it.
Tobi wasted no more time and turned around coming face to face with a wolf, her breath caught in her throat which caused her to have a little bit of a coughing fit. The wolf was feeling concern for the girl stood in front of him as he couldn’t make out if she was choking or not, he took a step forward and she immediately took a step back.
After about a minute or so of coughing Tobi looked up at the wolf that was in front of her and she couldn’t process how huge it was. The wolf was black with shards of sliver scattered on its chest and on top of its paws, but Tobi wasn’t paining attention to its fur she was looking directly into the wolfs eyes. She was taken back by how beautiful they where, they where such a vibrant blue it was as if they where glowing under the moonlight, and the wolf’s eyes looked very familiar for some reason.
“Did you bring me here?”
The wolf nodded its head yes.
“Why?” she whispered.
The wolf didn’t answer, it just continued to stand and stare at Tobi, as more time went on she sort of relaxed and let the tension in her shoulders go as she presumed that if the wolf was going to harm or kill her then it would have done it by now.
“Can I go home please?”
The wolf shook its head no.
“Then why do you want me here?” she again whispered.
Again the wolf didn’t answer it only stood there looking Tobi up and down, the wolf was a boy and he was closely taking in all of her features. He was impressed by her as she was trying her best to stand tall to not look like she wasn’t intimidated by him but she was no taller than 5’6. Her ash blonde hair was on top of her head in a messy bun, with a few less scattered in it and but he was mainly focused on her eyes. To him they where so enchanting, due to his supernatural power he could see them closely even with the distance between them they where a light violet colour which led to a dark amethyst colour around the edges. To him she was simply beautiful.
“Can I please go home? I don’t understand why you want me here, let me go” she said.
The wolf again shook its head no.
He could tell that the frustration was building within her so he began to tap his paw on the forrest’s floor making a beat, he bowed his head towards Tobi in hope she may recognise what he wanted her to do.It took her a moment but then she realised.
“You want me to dance?” she asked a little shocked.
The wolf nodded his head yes.
Closing her eyes Tobi took in a deep breath and began to do what she loved, she began to dance. The wolf watched her and was fascinated by her movement it reminded him so much of when he used to watch his Mother dance. From her arabesque, to her grande jeté to her pirouettes, she was light on her feet and there was something so pure in watching Tobi dance. As she did her side aerial the band in her hair snapped and as she came to stand up her wild curls tumbled around her falling down her back.
However during one of her turns Tobi miss placed her foot and fell over a branch and immediately falling on her back, she winced as she hit the ground as it was hard from the ice but she wasn’t injured just tired. Before she had chance to sit up the wolf was hovering over her, her breath hitched in her throat as the wolf so close to her. Neither one of them moved as they starred at each other.
Taking a chance Tobi leaned her hand upwards and stroked the wolf’s snout only for a moment, the hair on the wolf’s body was soft and she liked the way it shone under the moon light, Tobi thought that the wolf was beautiful. The wolf he let out a smile and Tobi caught something that was dropping over some of his teeth.
“What is that? You have something in your teeth” Tobi said.
The wolf dropped his head towards Tobi’s hand and as he did Tobi felt something in the palm of it. She brought up her hand and noticed that the wolf had dropped a gold necklace in her hand, the chain seemed light and it had a small leaf that dangled on it and at the tip of the leaf there was a gem, a blue gem that seemed to glow just like his eyes.
“It’s beautiful, do you want me to wear it?” she felt stupid asking because what else would you do with a necklace?
The wolf nodded yes and took a couple of paces back as Tobi sat up and placed the necklace around her neck. It fit perfectly and she grabbed onto the small gem in the lead and looked back up into his eyes, smiling she bowed her head thanking the wolf for the gift. The wolf looked up to the moon and held his head high as he began to howl.
“Tobi wake up” Tobi turned around and was confused as she could hear her Grandmas voice.
“Tobi come on honey if you don’t wake up you’ll be late for your first pack meeting” again she heard her Grandmas voice and this time she felt really cold like all the warmth had been stripped from her.
“Just like your Mother, don’t make me get the bucket of water because I will” Ray warned her.
All of sudden Tobi sat up and held onto her chest as she was panting. She looked around and noticed that she was in her bed and she was in her newly decorated room at her Grandparents house. Her Grandma, Ray, was just about to walk out of the room when she turned and saw her Granddaughter looking worse than ever. Tobi was pale with slight dark circles under eyes and she was sweating, ever since she’d turned seventeen she’d been suffering with nightmares.
“Tobi honey its alright it was just a bad dream, you’re okay” Ray whispered as she walked over to her granddaughter and pulled her into a hug.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine” was all Tobi said.
“Do you want me to phone the Luna and tell her you need another week to prepare yourself before meeting pack members? I don’t mind, if you need more time to adjust here then you can have it”
“No, no I’ll be fine”
“Okay well I’ll let you shower and I’ll make you some breakfast, how about a bacon sandwich and some eggs?”
“Yeah that’ll be great thanks Gram” Tobi said with a small smile.
Ray stood up and just as she was about to turn around she noticed the necklace that was around Tobi’s neck she took a deep breath and walked out of the room sighing as she did. She clutched onto the necklace that was around her own neck and could practically foresee what was about to happen.
Little did Ray know that in her bathroom Tobi was clutching onto her own necklace, wondering how it got from her dream into her reality. She decided to brush it off for now and hopped into the shower. Today was her first day meeting pack members, she sighed, don’t you just love Mondays Tobi thought.
