Chapter 1

The once-distant murmurs became louder, and it was apparent that the sounds were coming in their direction. “Hurry guys. Hurry! We have to get out of the catacombs. Now.” Auguste hoarsely whispered. “If these people see us we’re in BIG trouble!!”

Raphael lifted his lantern and shined the thin beam of light down a much smaller tunnel. As the group of teens stepped through the doorway, hundreds of fist-sized spiders scurried away, back to their webs. The musty air filled their noses with unwanted scents of the deceased. Louis could now partially make the voices: “You … trouble … come. ″ Louis’s face went as white as a ghost. He pushed the boys further into the corner, and, without looking closely, one would think that they were just another pile of bones.

Crunch, Crunch, Thump. The heavy footsteps approached the corner. “If we do have to spend the night here, at least I have a full stomach of my mothers’ French Onion Soup,” thought Auguste. Visions of being a juvenile criminal flashed through Louis’s mind like a horror film. The bright orange jumpsuits, horrific food, life behind bars. Crunch, Crunch, Thump. The stranded teens huddled as close as possible when the footsteps reached the intersection. No one made a sound. Time stopped, for just a moment.
