Meeting

I walked back out to the living room to grab my charger that I had forgotten, and there she was. The tall girl stood in the middle of the living room, pulling her leather jacket back on, I stilled. I didn’t want social interaction with this person, I would only embarrass myself.

She noticed me standing there stiffly and gave me a once over again, looking me up and down. I had no clue what to do, she was standing there without any emotion in her eyes, a smirk on her lips.

I was well aware of the predatory look she was giving, I could tell she knew how shy the encounter was making me. I never liked attention from large groups of people, but right now I wish I was giving a speech to the public, light and cameras included…

“I don't believe I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting you…” she paused and rested her eyes on my own, I quickly averted my eyes. She took a few moments trying to make eye contact again. “My name is Artemis, if that would make you any more comfortable...”

“Fawn” I stilled before continuing on with what I usually say in introductions “you know, like the baby animals…” I trailed off before realizing how dumb the explanation must of sounded. Still, I peaked to look up at the woman, I saw a wide genuine smile that didn’t dare fail to bring a smile to my face.

She stuck out her hand as though to give a handshake, I hesitated before putting my hand in her own. She kept eye contact as she lifted my hand to her lips, warmth brushed my knuckles, bringing heat to my face. “Baby…”

Footsteps approached from the kitchen, the only other person in the house being Jenna I panicked. I pulled my hand away from her lips, averting my eyes from her own, she continued to smirk at my shyness. Artemis kept her hand near her lips, touching her lips with her fingers in a certain way, making me feel some type of way.

“Fawn!” She glanced at Artemis with a look of disgust, I didn’t understand. “Artemis, don’t you have a girl’s life to ruin?” She gave a bitchy tongue click and eye roll before dragging me behind her, back to the kitchen. I looked behind me at Artemis, I could tell the small comment had an effect on her, even through the growing distance.

Her tight grip on my arm loosened some until it disappeared completely, leaving a red mark on my arm that I hoped would disappear. She started opening a couple of cupboards randomly. “I’m sorry for my sister’s indecent behavior.” She continued searching for something in the cupboards.

“Your sister?”

“Sadly…” she pulled out a bottle of clear liquid hidden behind spices and other cooking supplies. “But forget about that smudge, I found a ticket that will make this sleepover fun.” She held up a bottle of what I could now clearly read the label, vodka. I felt my stomach hurt at the thought of tonight, I didn’t come to drink, I came to study for next week’s test.

The first test of the school year meant everything to me and the fact that I’m even allowing her to pull me upstairs to her room makes me feel… scared?

We passed by Artemis one more time before going up the stairs and into Jenna’s room.
