Chapter 1

There was darkness everywhere. She waited for her eyes to adjust to this lack of light in the room. Was it a room? Where was she? Suddenly she felt that aching pain at the back of her head. She tried to remember where she was, but she could see nothing which will indicate her location. There was only that terrible smell, the odour of a corpse. Why was there a dead body? She tried to move her right hand, but it just hurt a lot. It was broken. She was sure about it. How? How did she know that her hand was broken and how on earth could she possibly know that the stinking smell was coming from a dead body? Was she a doctor or maybe a medical examiner or something? Who was she? She realized that she knew nothing about herself...not even her name. So many questions troubled her mind. All this was enough to make a person panic. However, when she tried to stand up, even though it hurt like crazy, she heard voices. She was not sure how many, but there were people there. They were whispering something that she could not hear clearly. She was thinking of asking for help, but what if those people were the ones responsible for the situation she was in? As she was struggling to stand on her feet, the voices were getting near her and then stopped...dead silence again. After a few seconds, one of the people entered the place she was in and blinded her with a flashlight. She covered her eyes with her left hand but then tried to look around the room and at the person who was holding the flashlight. She saw the corpse lying in the corner of what was probably a room. Other than the corpse, her, and the man in the black mask, there was no one in the room. The man in the black mask put a little porcelain bowl next to her and pronounced "Eat." with his raw bass voice echoing in the empty room. He left the room as quietly as he entered and locked the door behind him. She was all alone in the darkness again. How did they expect her to eat when she could not even find the bowl in that darkness. Luckily, she did reach the bowl and smelled it. It was the worst kind of smell, worse than the smell of the corpse. She definitely could not eat that and threw the bowl away from her. She was not hungry anyway. She finally realised the situation she was in. The man in the mask did not hurt her and even tried to feed her- even though what he gave her was not edible, so it meant that it was a ransom situation. They were going to keep her until someone gave them the money they asked for; or whatever they asked for. Was she rich? Did she have a rich family? She stood up again. It was very hard and very painful. She felt so weak. Somehow she managed to reach the door and yelled as much as her voice allowed her to. "Where am I?" She kicked the door with her leg but achieved nothing. It seemed as there was nobody on the other side of the door. She tried the same once again but was met with the same result as before. She sat down next to the door so that she can hear when somebody comes and started crying having all that pressure on her shoulders. She did not know who she was nor where she was being held. There was a dead person next to her and she was locked in God knows where. Who were those people who were holding her captive? Why could not she remember who she was? Most importantly, for how long was she actually there?
