Thin Walls

I lied in bed, as my friend Aria stared at herself in the mirror. Aria had smooth butterscotch blonde hair, her eyes were a green kind of color, she had a hourglass figure, and was a couple inches taller than me. She was wearing a blue dress that fell a little past her thighs, while she had a jean jacket over her shoulder. She was getting ready for a party that was being thrown in one of the other dorms.

“ Does this look good?” Aria asked.

“ Are you wearing shorts under that?” I asked.

She sighed.

“ Yes mom,” She said, jokingly.

I laughed.

“ Yes it looks good,” I answered.

Aria looked at me, jumping onto the bed, sitting on her knees.

“ I don’t understand why you won’t come to the party with me,” She said.

“ I’m not the party type,” I stated.

“ Ugh, you’re no fun,” She joked.

I jokingly punched her shoulder as a shocked look came across her face. Before I could react, I felt something smack into the side of my face, causing me to fall off the bed. I looked up to see Aria holding a pillow in her hand. I glared at her grabbing a pillow. She slammed her pillow into my side, as I did the same to her. I heard a knock at the door causing me to fall off the bed, making Aria burst into laughter.

“ Coming!” Aria yelled laughing. Aria came up to me, pulling me up before wrapping her arms around me. “ See you after the party.”

I looked at her worried.

“ Don’t get too drunk,” I said.

“ I won’t,” She said, smiling.

“ I’m serious, I don’t want you waking up in some strangers bed,” I said.

“ I promise,” She said, holding up her pinky.

I sighed. Holding up my pinky, she linked hers in mine, before pulling me back into a hug. She pulled away walking out the door, putting her arm over Jack’s shoulder, which is her boyfriend. I shook my head worried about Aria. I pushed the worry out of my head, knowing Aria could take care of herself. If not Jack would watch over her.

I layed back down in bed turning on my side, Closing my eyes trying to go to sleep. I began hearing muffled cries from behind one of the walls. I looked around before pushing off the bed. It wasn’t a shock I was able to hear the cries. The school’s walls were very thin. I walked up to the wall pressing my ear closer to hear; it was a boy crying from behind the wall.

“ Hello?” I asked.

The cries stopped. It took a couple of minutes for the boy to answer.

“ Who are you?” He asked.

“ I’m Vee,” I said. “ Why are you crying?”

“ I wasn’t crying,” He stated, which was clearly a lie. I could still hear him sniffling on the other side of the wall.

“ It’s okay if you were, I think it’s sweet when boys cry,” I said.

“Really?” The boy asked.

“ Yeah,” I answered.

Which was true. I really thought it was sweet when a boy cried. It kind of shows that not all boys are all tough and mighty.

“ What’s your name?” I asked.

“ That’s not important,” He said.

“ It is important,” I stated.

“ I don’t want you to know who I am,” He said.

Why didn’t he want me to know? It made me more curious. I wanted to know who this boy was, and why he was crying. I wonder if I had seen him around. But I wasn’t sure.

“ Well can you at least tell me why you’re crying?” I asked.

“ My life sucks,” He answered.

“ Why?” I asked.

“ Because people are so mean to me,” He said, beginning to cry.

I know I wasn’t able to see him. But I could hear his soft sniffles from behind the wall.

“ Don’t listen to them,” I said.

“ It’s not that easy, they’re everywhere,” He said.

I looked at the wall, before resting my head on the wall.

“ Do you mean every student here bullies you?” I asked.

“ Yes,” He answered.

“ Not everyone,” I said, referring to myself, Aria, and my other friends.

“ You would if you knew me,” He said.

“ I would not!” I stated, as my voice got a little high pitched.

He giggled. His giggle made me smile. I’m glad I was able to make him laugh. I wanted to help this boy be happy. I wanted to be his friend.

“ Can you give me a hint?” I asked.

“ Like what?”

“ Have I seen you before?” I asked.

Before he could answer Aria walked through the door.

“ Hold on,” I said.

I pushed myself off the floor, Closing the door. I looked at Aria who was flopped over the bed. I shook my head, knowing she was wasted from the party. I covered Aria with her blanket. I walked over to the wall, getting back on my knees.

“ Okay i’m back,” I said.

No answer.

“ You still there?” I asked.

Still no answer. I sighed, pushing myself off the floor walking over to my bed covering back up in my blanket. I closed my eyes, as I slowly drifted asleep, Thoughts of the boy running through my head.
