Chapter 1

It's the middle of May but somehow it's snowing. Thin frost forming on the window, the coldness seeping slowly unto her finger as she traces an X on it. The silence, her silence, is filled with shouts of little children playing in the snow far below. Normal children with normal parents who don't lock you up in attics. Her throat hurts from all the screaming she'd been doing—from yesterday, today and most probably tomorrow.

It was certain they'd forgotten about her this time. Her stomach rumbled as the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls filled the room. She could hear her brother, laughing and teasing her little sister. Her dad absent as always, and her mother covering up for the monster that she was with Christmas cuisines and promised gifts.

She hated her family for doing this to her, she hated herself for not being normal but it was her fate, she couldn't change it. She didn't have the willpower to cry this time as she lumbered to the other side of the room, close to the door. Punishing herself with the delicious aroma that came in.

Her breathing stopped at the sound of voices...so close—closer than normal. "She's fucking mental.". Her heart sinks because she knows it's true. Her head hurts as she hears those voices again, she didn't know what they were. And she covered her ears hoping it would stop. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." She hears but it isn't from her head this time. The door swings open.
