Prologue
"She will never be safe." Tall intimidating man with long blond hair muttered while looking at little cot on the table in the middle of small kitchen he shared with his wife Gina. He looked at her for reassurance.
Small brunette woman next to him nodded. "No she won't," she agreed, "but she isn't alone, Juliano. She has her family. And family sticks together."
Few people muttered their approval. It was old family saying, dating all the way 1600's.
"How will we raise her? As a normal?" Young woman with dark hair started asking questions. Her eyes started to shine green as she clearly got more upset. "As a witch? Should we mask her powers?"
Tall men with blue eyes patted her hand. "My love everything will be alright." He said although it wasn't clear who he was trying to comfort, his wife, himslef or everyone else; probably little of both.
"No Henry it won't be alright. Eleina has every right to be upset. Don't underestimate your wife." Short guy with blond spikey hair said. His voice sounded dangerous, like he was saying a prediction and predictions never meant anything good in this world. Although he wasn't even 20 and among youngest people in the room, everyone took him seriously. "Those are all more then valid questions. And we need answers..."
"We still have time, Philipe." Petite woman from before spoke. "She is young."
Everyone nodded agreeing with her, except for spikey guy.
"Nanna she is young, but her power is growing everyday. Before long she will be grown and more powerful then..." He shook his head trying to gind right words. "There is no telling how powerful she might get and what will happen then."
Huge men with je black hair and long beared started talking. "If she is so dangerous wouldn't it be better if..."
"Don't even try to say it, Marco!" Elaine shouted shooting daggers at her brother. "Cleo has great power. That much is obvious. That doesn't make her a nonster. You can't harm her. She is innocent."
"Elaine hear me out. She is my niece too and I love her, not as much as you, but I love her. I would never harm her." He said in calm reassuring voice. "I merely wanted to suggest locking her powers. Playing dumb if something unusual is mentioned..."
"How is that best course of action? She needs to be thought and protected!" Everyone started shouting except for petite woman and old man. They looked at each other a silent message passing between them. They'll get nothing accomplished this way, still they kept quite. After few minutes of fighting cot moved and cries were heared from within. Juliano stood and straightened. Just that was enough to catch attention of some.
"Enough!" His voice boomed through little kitchen silencing everyone in the process. "We all want what's best. However... We should let parents decide. After all it's their child."
He looked expectantly at Henry and Eleina. They looked at each other then at their child that was now safely in their arms. Eleina spoke first. "Cleo is a baby. Right now it's best if she is kept in the dark. We don't know what's going to happen in the future, but for now this is our decision."
"And please respect our wish." Added Henry. Some nodded others shook their heads not liking it, others looked at baby with pitty, no matter the reaction it was clear that Cleo will be left blind and raused like a normal, just as her parents wished. Juliano nodded and just as he was abot to stand up kitchen cabinets exploded.
Glass flew everywhere. Panic rose high. Few of those who tried to reach the door got caught in the middle of another explosion, this time it was door. Philipe yelled something but no one could hear him over deafening sound of glass breaking. He then took matter into his own hands. Forming a sheild over himself he jumped across half a table to Eleina and Henry. To his horror. Henry was bloody like someone pour a bucket over him. Eleina wailed next to his body trying to protect her daughter at the same time. Juliano and Gina were pushed in the corner holding each other with shield wraped around them. Philipe reached for Eleina, but to his horror he realized her back was full of glass. Instead she reached for him placing Cleo in his arms. Protect her. She mouthed to him and through shock of what he witnessed he nodded. He stood up with baby in his arms. He looked around and realized everything went quite. Many people were injured and even more he noticed dead. He looked at his grandma and grandpa. Both were crying. He felt bad for not crying himslef, but he had a mission. Without a second thought he opened a portal and stepped through. He looked arpund his cozy, but small gouse un heart of Italy. He occasionally used it when he wanted to get away from his family. Nobody knew about it and he was sure they would be safe.
Distressed he looked at Cleo. Baby that he promised to protect. He didn't know what to do. He had to take care of his baby niece that lost half of her family tonight. He wasn't grown up himslef. Lookimg again at her soft hazel eyes that resembeled Eleine so much he swore he would die for her if that's what it took for her to take her place.
That night he called his grandparents telling them they were bith safe. That he would visit with Cleo as soon as it was safe. They agreed and said to be careful to protect her. He used opportunity to tell them he loves them. His grandma choked at that. He felt guilty that half if his family getting killed is what it took for him to say he lived them.
After that he put Cleo in imrpovised crib next to his bed. Falling asleep to sound of her breathing.
