October 1, 2019: Medical Classroom

October 1, 2019

“Yo, Wen, wake up.”

I lazily glared at my pink haired, elder classmate, Joey Clearwater, who smirked.

“It’s Rowena, dumb ass.”

We’d been classmates since middle school, because I’d gotten moved up, for my smarts-- by five years, from third grade to eighth. And he even followed me to college!

Joey was a medical student, like me, as we were both going to school to become doctors. Joey teased me ruthlessly, though, as though we were both young children still. My doting mother always told me he liked me, and that’s why, while he teased me, he got me out of sticky situations.

He smirked his signature smirk, which usually had all the girls smitten.

Much to his disappointment, I was never even moved slightly by it, he only bored me with it.

“Ok, Wennie,” he snickered.

Done with his bullshit, I turned away.

I felt a pencil poke my back.

“I swear to God, Mr. Clearwater, would you please stop causing trouble, in my class, by harassing Miss Bell?” our rather annoyed professor scolded joey.

“Yes, professor Chasan,” Joey replied.

He stopped for the remainder of class, until the bell then the class made its way out. Of course, no one other than Joey himself was beside me.

Taking advantage of the situation, he reached out, and pulled at my long chocolaty locks.

I turned and smacked his hand, causing the whole crowd to stare.

“Knock it the fuck off, Joseph!” I screamed at him.

“Someone’s pmsing,” he smirked, after he recovered. I’d never reacted that strongly before.

I spun and strode away.

My elder brother, who was five years my senior, spotted me, when the incident played out. As soon as I saw his angry glare, I knew shit would fly.

“Rowena Emily Bell!” he yelled.

I ignored him.

He ran up to me.

“What the hell, Rowena?! You know Mum and Dad like him. What if they hear you smacked their best friends’ son? Will they pull you out? You don’t know. So, if you don’t want them to come to investigate, and find out you’re in history and writing classes, you’d best stop!”

“Aiden, You know how he is, how he treats me, so why can’t you do something? He’s been like this since middle school.”

“Rowena, please at least try?”

“Fine,” I growled.

“Please, Ro?”

I sighed, to clear my anger. Putting my head in one hand tiredly, I replied, “Alright, Aiden.”

“Thanks, Sis,” Aiden said, and hugged me.

I felt my phone buzz. Shit! It was already time to get on the campus bus, to go to my dorm, to empty my heavy bag, and put more heavy books in.

“Gotta get to my next class, Big Brother. Ciao!” I yelled over my shoulder, as I ran to the bus stop, where my bus was parked, loading other students.

I hopped on, and got in a seat.

I rode the way to my dorm in deep thought.

Ok, what if Joey really did fancy me? What if he picked on me because of this?

My mum would be thrilled if I did marry him, as she’d planned our wedding since the first day of eighth grade. His parents would be delighted.

That aside, did I fancy him? I doubted it, as I’d only felt annoyance and anger near him.

But, what was love? How did it feel?

Since I’d never experienced it, how should I know? I mean, I’d read love stories, hell, I ate them up like food, but again, I'd never experienced for myself.

As I got onto the bus, I noticed a kindly looking elderly woman. I sat next to her. She lightly snoozed, as she waited for the bus to arrive at her stop, leaving me to my thoughts

What was I going to do about Joey?!
