Chapter 1
I was born in The Holding Place. I never knew my parents, they were not the first thing I saw. I saw red, blue, and yellow. I didn’t know what they meant at the time, but now I do.
You live in The Holding Place, until you're 15. Which I am now 15, which means three trucks come and take you. I don’t know where they go to, all I know is that the people don’t come back.
I woke up to the sound of the trucks pulling up. It woke everyone up and we all headed toward the center. I got there and looked around for someone I knew. Out of the corner of my eye I see a boy, my age, looking at me. He didn’t look away, but smirked a little. I pushed through the crowd trying to get to him.
“Hi, I’m Isabel”, I said with a smile, “I couldn’t help but see you staring at me.”
“I’m Jonathan”, he said giving another smirk, “And I couldn’t help but stare.”
“Why’s that?”
He moved closer. “Because who couldn’t look at your beautiful face”, he said lifting my chin a little. I tried my best not to turn red, but it didn’t work. Just then I realized the Monitors were getting closer.
The Monitors where big, muscular, and would kill any chance they got. They were the ones that kept order all throughout The Holding Place and wherever the trucks went. Everyone was scared of them, including me. They were starting to put us into groups. One red, one yellow, and one blue.
I was fixing to turn and walk away when I felt Jonathan grab my hand.
“Stay, I want to know what group you get put in”, he said pulling me back. I nodded. The Monitor walked up the him first, asked him some questions, then said “Instinct”, handed him a bag, and turned to me.
“Name”
“Isabel Grace”
“Would you like to research Pokemon?”
“No”
“Would you want to evolve and train your Pokemon?”
“Yes”
“Valor”, he said, handed me a bag and pointed at a tent for me to change in. I went to the tent and changed into the red outfit, which was in the bag.
“You look good in red”, a voice said when I exited the tent. I turned and saw Jonathan walking toward me and smiling.
“You look good in yellow”
“So”, he paused looking a bit upset, “You're in Valor, that’s a long way from Instinct”.
“Yeah, but you'll call”, I said giving him my number. He smiled and took it.
“Yeah, I’ll-”
“Everyone to the trucks!”, said a Monitor with a megaphone.
I gave a sigh. “Well, looks like it’s time to go. Bye”, I said and started to walk away. Once again, I felt him grab my hand.
“Wait”, he pulled me back, “I will see you again, right?”
I giggled. “Of course you will”. He let go of my hand, nodded, and walked to the truck. I did the same, although I didn’t want to. I had lived in The Holding Place for 15 years. Now, I was going to leave it and all my friends that I had made. I was going to miss it, but I knew that my future was out there.
I walked onto the truck and sat down, as soon as I did the doors closed and we were headed for Valor. I was the only one on that truck. Un
