Summary

It all started with a few minor detail, things that did not make sense. As I start to pay more attention to these anomalies, I started to notice others. Maybe I’m just being a little paranoid. Or even worst... maybe I’m going crazy.

Just A Normal Day

**beep** **beep** **beep** **beep**.....

7AM. That’s my first alarm... I have another 10 minutes to sleep.

**beep** **beep** **beep** **beep**.....

There’s goes the second one, that’s my 5 minutes warning. I really need to change the alarm sound.

**beep** **beep** **beep** **beep**.....

8AM. “Shit”, I yelled as my eyes screamed wide open. What the fuck just happened, I thought as I scramble from my bed across the room to get ready for work. I had over sleep an extra 30 minutes and now I only have about 10 minutes to get ready and get the hell out of this house. It’s going to take me about 50 minutes to get to work. This will be a time crunch mission.

No time for breakfast, no time to shower, no time to do anything... I’m going to have to settle with just brushing my teeth and of course, making a cup of coffee. From the kitchen to the car and on the way to work I go.

Another day in paradise, I thought to myself as I drive to work, laughing at how things are turning out again. 29 years of my life and I still am have trouble waking up early to get ready for anything. The good news is that I’m not going to be late, I can’t count how many times this has happened in the past 6 months. I mean I hop I’m not going to be late, I thought, as I zipped through traffic. The bad news is that I probably look like shit, I thought, as I brush my hair looking through my car mirror.

I pulled into my work parking lot at 8:59AM. Lucky me, there was a parking spot right near the entrance. I pulled right into the parking spot and took no time rushing to my work station, hoping to avoid being seen by bosses.

“Good morning Tyler”, my coworker and friend called out as I sat down at my desk. Danny is a good friend of mine for about 5 years now. We knew each other for a much longer period but never really hang out before. Over the years, we got to know each other and truly became good friends. He was going through a patch and so I had helped him find work with my employer. “Rough night?”, he said.

“No, actually. I had plenty on sleep”, I said, being even more aware of how I look. “Do I look bad?”

“Yes and no. I mean since I know you, this is your norm. But for those who don’t know you, look like you went through hell and back”, he joking said as he bursts out in laughter.

“Fuck you”, I jokingly said back at him. “At least I still get shit done around here.”, I said as I get there last laugh.

“Yea yea”, he said with a grunt and no other comebacks to my offensive. “Are you ready for tonight?”, he said, changing the conversation.

Crap, he’s talking about going out to clubs again. Danny is 3 years younger than me so he’s still into going out partying and having a good time. I’m starting to feel old and would prefer kick backs or bars where I can hear myself talking. Clubs are fun and all but it’s just so draining. At the same time, I just feel like I no longer belong there. I mean most of the people that show up at the clubs are around the ages of 21-26.

“Sure”, I said with a grin on my face. Danny is a good friend and so I do compromise with him at times.

“I got you that little something to wipe that smirk off your face later tonight”, he said with a big smile. “You know, that thing we talked about last Saturday?”

My eyes widely opened as my memories last Saturday rushes into my head. We had gone out to have some drinks at a bar. Over a light heated conversation, he mentioned this new drug that some of his friends had tried. I had told him that I would be down to try it but I obviously was not in my right mind then. I didn’t take much else from that conversation and I didn’t think he would follow through with it.

“What thing?”, I said, playing stupid and hoping that it’s not what I think it is.

” You know what I’m talking about “, he says as he puts his hand into his pocket as if he was fetching something out.

“Bro, don’t do what I think you are about to do. We are at work.”, I said to stop him from making a horrible mistake. I looked around to see if anyone was around. I swear, Danny is really stupid sometimes. “I know what you are talking about, I was only hoping it wasn’t that. Why would you even bring it here?”

“Sorry, I didn’t want to leave it unattended.” he said, realizing the mistake he was about to make. His face went from smile to a almost surprise look. “Well yea, are we going to do this later or what? I mean I’m pretty excited about this after we had that conversation last time.”, he said.

Danny has this amazing skill of guilt tripping people when he needs to and I know he is using this on me now. The thing is it is working. I mean I shouldn’t have agreed to him last Saturday. And because I did, he went out of the way to get it. What friend would I be if I left him hanging. “Let’s just go out for the night. I don’t think it’s a good idea to try that. Not really feeling it.”, I told him.

“Okay, I’ll bring it just in case.”, he says as he pats his pocket. I can already see it in his face that he has every intention on doing that tonight. “We are all going to meet at my house at 6 to pregame so make sure you get there.”, he said with a mischievous smile. I can already see how the night will turn out in his mind. This makes me wonder... Why am I still friends with this guy.
