Little Miss Rebel
Kinsley
I entered the bathroom with my blue towel wrapped around my body and locked the door behind me. I stepped into the shower and spent 10 minutes in the shower and washed the hair dye out of my hair. When I was finished, I stepped out of the shower and started to put on my blue crop top, black cropped leather jacket, black skinny jeans, and black peep toe heels.
My name is Kinsley and I am a rebellious 16 year old young lady. I've dyed my hair Passion Fruit Pink without my parents knowing. What can I say? I have to look my best for my Freshman year of high school, right?
I looked in the mirror and primped my towel dried curly pink hair.
I stole my mom's heels from her closet last night while my parents were sleeping. I went into her MAC bag and took some of her makeup that she spent good money on. I don't care. What is she going to do? Beat my ass?
I chuckled to myself.
"Kinsley, honey. Let's go. You don't want to be late for the first day of school." My mother called from the opposite side of the door.
I rolled my eyes sarcastically.
"Just hold your horses, Mom! It takes hours for me to look this good." I replied, condensendingly.
I giggled.
"Kinsley, you've been in that bathroom all morning. What the hell are you doing in there?" My father asked, boastfully.
I sarcastically rolled my eyes.
"Nothing, Dad. Nothing that you would ever know anything about. You're a guy." I responded, sarcastically.
"Don't get cute, Kinsley. You don't want me to black one of your eyes before picture day."
"Kingston, don't say that to her. Come on out and have breakfast real fast."
I rolled my eyes sarcastically.
Breakfast with my parents? Who in the fuck does that nowadays? That's lame as fuck. No one does that.
"I'll pass on that one. No one does that anymore except lame ass people."
"Watch your mouth, Kinsley."
I rolled my eyes.
"It's the truth, Dad." I said, doubtfully.
"I've had enough of your mouth this morning! I'm coming in there and dragging you out this fucking bathroom!"
My father kicked through the door as it flew open and charged towards me angrily. He stared at me with such rage.
"What the fuck did you do to your hair?" My father asked, crossing his arms in anger.
His green eyes narrowed as he stared through my soul.
"You don't like it, Daddy? You don't like Passion Fruit Pink?" I asked, flipping my hair back.
My mother entered the bathroom and reacted mortified.
"What on Earth did you do to your hair, Kinsley? I thought I told you that you could not dye your hair until you were 18 and out of my house." My mother said, startled.
"You did say that but I wanted it and did it anyway."
My mother covered her mouth and her violet eyes widened.
"You better be lucky that you're on your way to school because I would've fucked you up right now." My father retorted, clinching his fists.
"Kingston, just relax. I'm not proud of what she did but yelling at her isn't going to do the trick." My mother said, timidly as she looked at the ground.
"Is that my MAC lipstick and my Jimmy Choo heels?" My mother asked, startled.
A car horn honked outside.
"You're damn right they are! Thanks, Mom. Gotta go!" I replied, flipping my hair back.
I walked out of the bathroom and could hear my mother crying.
"That girl is going to be the death of me. She's dyeing her hair, wearing makeup, and now she's stealing from her own mother? You and I have to figure something out!" Kingston snarled.
"She's just expressing herself. She's 16 and thinks that she's grown. I say that we just let her come into her own." Brylin said, exhaustedly.
"I will not allow her to parade herself in my house looking and acting like that." Kingston said, doubtfully.
"I'm not condoning what she's doing but she's just trying to figure out who she is. All girls go through it."
"You better get to her and talk some sense into her before I do!"
Brylin sighed.
I walked outside and got into my best friend, Brave's car. She lives two doors down from us and we became friends after junior high. We were both about to be Freshman this year at North Atlanta High School. Both of our brothers went there and graduated. My brother, Syre, graduated at the top of his class as did her brother, Branson. Brave and I have a lot in common: We both have an estranged relationship with our half-brothers. We're both 16. We have the same taste in fashion, music, and of course, guys.
"Cute hair color, Doll! Did your parents have a fit when they saw that you changed your hair?" Brave asked.
"Yes they did. I was like, relax. I wanted it and I did it. Simple as that." I said with my hands on my hips.
"Well, it looks great on you. I could never pull it off."
"Sure you could. You're just as hot as I am."
Brave blushed.
Brave was a very distinct girl. She was very reserved at times but she had a wild side just like me. Ever since we've met, she's always wore turbans and headwraps as if she has something to hide. It doesn't bother me because she rocks the fuck out of them and she's hot.
"Thanks, Doll." Brave replied, while blushing.
"No problem. How was your summer break?"
Brave rubbed her arm in nervousness.
"It was great until my estranged brother came into town and ruined everything."
*Brave's Flashback*
The doorbell rang and I could hear my mother's footsteps walking towards the door. I wasn't exactly sure who it was and didn't bother coming down to see. I was in my room minding my own business.
"Mom!" Branson called.
"Branson, what a surprise to see you! What brings you into town?" Brielle asked, smiling.
"I came here to check on my half-sister. Is she here?"
"Yes, she's here but I wouldn't pester her. We just got back from the doctor's office. It doesn't sound too good. The cancer is spreading to her lymph nodes. She starts chemotherarpy in 3 weeks."
Brielle took a deep breath.
"Damn, I can't believe that she's going through it." Branson said, sadly.
"It's in her genetics. Both of her paternal grandparents died from stage 4 cancer. I'm glad to say that she's in stage 2. They caught it early enough before it started to spread and cause more damage. No mother wants their child to have cancer." Brielle said, timidly.
"I need to check on her, Mom. Make sure she's okay."
"All I ask is that you be lenient on her. She's already having a hard time right now. You and Brave don't have the best relationship as it is and I don't want you to ruin it."
"I won't, Mom. I need to make sure she's okay."
Branson walked away and went upstairs.
I stood in my bedroom, sobbing when I was startled with a knock on the door.
"Come in, Mom." I called.
"Actually, it's not Mom." A familiar voice said through the door.
I folded my arms and my half-brother walked into my bedroom.
"What the hell are you doing here, Black Sheep? Get out of my room!"
"I'm just here to check on you. Mom told me everything. How are you?"
I gasped in dismay.
"Damnit, Mom! It's true. The cancer spread to my lymph nodes and I'm not taking it too well."
I looked down to the ground.
"Look, I know that we don't have the best relationship because I'm what you call a 'Black Sheep' but--,"
"Yeah, you are! You're supposed to be my older brother and I know nothing about you! I don't want a relationship with you so if you would please go back to where you came from that would be great."
"But, Brave, I--,"
"Get out! Get out of my room! Go!"
Branson turned around and walked out of my room. I started to scream and broke down in tears.
*End of Flashback*
"I never knew that you had cancer. I just thought you just love wearing headwraps." I said, wiping my tears.
"Yes, I have Chronic Lymphomatic Leukemia so I've mostly been indoors all summer." Brave replied, sadly.
"Is there a cure?"
"Not yet but I'll be fine. Come on, let's get to school."
When we arrived to school, I noticed that there were three familiar faces standing across from Brave and I. One wearing a red V neck shirt, black jeans, and black boots. Another one wearing a gray crew neck shirt, black distressed jeans, and moccassins, and the other one wearing a blue V neck shirt, black miltary jacket, black skinny jeans, and black studded loafers. I blushed.
"What is it?" Brave shrugged.
"Him!" I exclaimed.
Those guys are the Ellis brothers. My dad and their dad, Zane were best friend back in the day. They are still friend to this day but my mom isn't fond of the youngest's mother, Nina. Somthing of the lines of Nina slept with my dad 16 years ago. I don't believe anything that she says.
-Ahem-
Anyway, the one in the red is Zane Jr, the oldest. The one in the gray is Zacharias, the youngest who is obsessed with me. And then there's him-- Zaire. The dark skinned heartthrob that makes my heart beat faster and faster everytime he looked at me.
I blushed.
He's 25 years old and I've been dying to talk to him. I know that if were dating it would be statutory rape or something but that's the thrill, right? Being with an older guy when you're just a minor?
Zane winked at me and let a coy smile emerge from his chisled jaw. I blushed shyly. Brave noticed instantly.
"Kinsley, that man is twice your age." Brave retorted.
"So?" I shrugged. "He's 25, that's not so bad."
"You're still a minor, Doll. You could get into some real trouble."
"Sorry, Love, but this is happening. Excuse me."
I walked away from Brave's side and walked towards the middle while Zaire walked towards me.
"Hey, Kinsley. Long time, no see. How you been?" Zaire asked, in a deep voice.
"I've been great. You?" I asked, charmingly.
"Can't complain. Just dropping off my little brother to school. You remember my brother, right?"
I rolled my eyes sarcastically.
"Yeah, the lame ass that won't leave me alone."
"Hey, that's still my brother. He's just a little shy and he really likes you."
"Oh? What about you?" I asked, sheepishly.
"You know that's forbidden territory. You being underage and all."
"It's only 2 more years. I've always wanted to date an older man. Age ain't nothing but a number, baby." I said, as I flipped my hair back.
"Yeah, unless you want to be on lock down. Listen, I think you're beautifu, sexy even, but this can't be."
My feelings were hurt by what he said but I knew that he was right.
"I know." I said, as I covered my face. "I'll see you around?"
"Definitely. Nice hair color, by the way. It makes your eyes pop."
Zane Jr, Zacharias, and Zaire walked away and I walked towards Brave.
"I can't believe you did that!" Brave said, angrily.
"Oh, lighten up. Let's just get to class."
Brave and I walked towards the school.
After a long 6 hours of unnecessary learning, Brave and I were on our way to the car when suddenly, Zaire stopped me in my tracks.
"Did you need something?" Brave asked, condensendingly.
"I want to talk to Kinsley, alone." Zaire said, nervously.
"She's too young for you so I suggest that you find someone your own age."
"Brave, I can fight my own battles. After all, it's just talking. It's not like I'm jumping his bones." I said, apathetically.
Yet.
"Fine, meet me in the car in 5."
Brave walked away.
"What's her problem?" Zaire shrugged.
"Just a friend looking out for a friend. What did you want to talk about?"
"Not here. Somewhere secluded and quieter."
"Okay." I shrugged.
Zaire and I walked away from the school and walked towards the campus gardens. Zaire gazed at me with his sultry brown eyes as his lips quivered.
"What do you want to talk about?" I shrugged.
Just like that, Zaire pressed his warm, soft lips on top of mine with no introduction. Is this really happening? I kept my eyes closed as I savored his kiss. The man that I've had a crush on since I was 14 is kissing me. My legs began to feel weak and I was losing my balance. His coarse, calloused hands gripped my face as he slipped his tongue into my mouth ravaging for mine. He was an incredible kisser and I didn't want it to end. We were on school property making out as if no one was in the world but us two. When he retreated, I still felt his lips on mine.
I blushed in adoration towards Zaire.
"That was-- wow!" I said, flirtaciously.
His lips tasted like amaretto and chocolate which complimented his flawless mahogany brown skin.
Zaire flipped back his long dreadlocks from his face before speaking.
"I can't be your boyfriend or your lover but I do like you, Kinsley." Zaire shrugged.
"I just wanted to show you how much I'm willing to wait for you."
"Mission accomplished!" I replied, while giggling.
"Let's get you back before your little friend notices that you were gone."
I nodded in agreement. Zaire escorted me back to the entrance of the school.
"I'll see you around." He whispered in my ear.
A coolness ran through me before I proceeded walking towards the student parking lot. I opened the passenger door of Brave's car and sat down.
"So what did he want to talk about?" Brave asked, doubtfully.
I rubbed my arm in nervousness.
"He just wanted to tell me that his younger brother wants to ask me out but doesn't know how." I shrugged.
"Aww, how cute!"
"Not aww. He's repulsive. Growing up, his dad always brought him around and he was so annoying. He still is. I don't want to be asked out by him."
"At least he'd be your own age."
"Not now, Brave."
"Anything else you guys talked about?" Brave asked.
"He also wanted me to be the first person to know about this college party he's throwing."
"If you're going, I'm definitely going! I've never been to a college party before."
"Neither have I and I think it'll be fun."
"So when is it?" Brave asked, excitedly.
That conversation was never said and it frightened me that I was lying to my best friend but I had to remain cool so she doesn't get suspicious.
"Um.. I think he said next Saturday. I can't remember. Got too much on my brain. I've got tons of homework to do. Yeah, first day of school and already have to write an essay."
"That's tragic." Brave responded, in exhaustion.
"You're telling me. It's all about what we did during our summer break." I said, exhaustedly. I flipped my hair back and quipped, "The teacher may not like my essay if that's the case."
I did not want to tell Brave that Zaire and I shared a passionate kiss in the campus garden. She would just pass her judgment and cause a scene. I think it's great that we look out for each other from time to time but if the show were on the other foot, I wouldn't try to control her every move. We are teenage girls and life is all about experimenting new things.
Maybe Zaire was going to be my new thing to try.
He did mention that he couldn't be my boyfriend or my lover and he's willing to wait for me but how long could he wait for me? I'm a great catch and anyone would love to have me.
